Omega General Help / Re: V6 2.5 Crankshaft Sensor - Advice Needed
« on: 25 October 2014, 18:46:11 »
An update on my non-starrer 2.5.

The crankshaft sensor from Dan Harford turned up within 48-hours of ordering and is a genuine Vx item manufactured by Siemens.

Fitted to the car today and it fired up on first turn of the key. Routed the sensor lead towards the passenger side inner wing and using a couple of cable ties it is routed well away form the exhaust manifold. So, overall, quite an easy job helped by the aforementioned guide.

I would recommend Dan Harford for supplying the genuine Vx sensor at a very good price.

Thanks you for all the inputs gents.

Ummm

Photos of the sensor on my car follows.

Based on the following guide, I had assumed that the part number 90492061 woould ensure I received the correct sensor. In this case a Siemens?

Is that not the case? Also, how would one tell if it was a Siemens or Bosch item if not from the above information?

Thank you gents.

I had also emailed the seller yesterday and 8:00am this morning received an email confirming that it was genuine vx.

Omega General Help / V6 2.5 Crankshaft Sensor - Advice Needed
« on: 19 October 2014, 23:52:27 »
My V6 2.5 turned 15 years of age at the end of September and has now given me the first problem ever. It won't start and there's no spark. The engine turns fine.

Suspecting that it is likely to be the crankshaft sensor, I've removed the scuttle and confirmed that it has oval connector. Also, the part number on the sensor is 90492061.

I now have the following questions:

1. Where to source a quality sensor?

I have found this seller who appears to be a Vx garage. The sensor price almost seems too good to be true for a genuine OEM part.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Vauxhall-Crankshaft-Sensor-Omega-V6-2-5-90492061-/271279918841?ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:GB:1123

Do any members have experience of a sensor from this seller?

2. Routing of the replacement

I've read most of the threads and in particular this maintenance guide on the old site.

http://oldsite.omegaowners.com//forum/YaBB.pl?num=1174321688

My question is about the best route for the lead - what's the current favourite routing?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

p.s. The paperclip test produced code 31.

Thank you gents for your replies. I contacted JamesV6CDX following the first lead and am visiting him on Thursday with a Conti kit.
James is now based in Beaconsfield just off the M40, not far from the M25/M40 junction. Handy for me as I happen to be visiting near heathrow later this week.

Cheers.

And how did you come to lose your tools? Or have they been stolen?

Omega General Help / Cambelt on 2.5 V6
« on: 15 July 2013, 08:09:17 »
My cambelts on the 2.5 v6 are coming up to 4years, 30k miles, so will be looking to get the belt, tensioners and water pump repalced soon. Are there any members in or around the Suffolk/London/Coventry triangle that offer cambelt replacement services?

Newbie Welcome Area / Hello all, great site!
« on: 19 September 2007, 21:24:52 »
Hi all,

My (actually the wife's!) Omega is a 1999 2.5 v6 Auto Estate, bought from a local garage for use as a family car just over two years ago. It's a very nice family car.

Spent some time looking through this site last year making a list of all the "common" issues. Then gave the list to my trusted local garage to carry out a sort of "mid-life" service replacing the oil cooler, camkit, rocker cover gaskets, cleaning breathers.... it was quite a long list but should hopefully take the car through another few years without any mechanical problems. Worked well and the car's really nice to drive.

Great site.
