I think you might be right with the handbrake shoes.

Jacked up the diff sounds okay and spins fine.

Going to get the handbrake shoes looked at on Friday.

Let you know outcome.

Hi All,

Recently my Omega developed some noise and a bit of a judder at speed. I took it to a garage who said that it is the diff and that its okay to drive and put up with the noise. However the next day it swerved unexpectedly and I had to grapple with the steering. This was quite unnerving. It also stated to wheel spin at junctions and up hill. I limped it home.
It almost felt as if one wheel was not working all the time.
I suspect the diff has died.
Wondering if this is the end of the road for the beast.
If I did source a diff second hand how do I know which is compatible. I have a 2.2 DTI Estate. Are there differences between saloon and estate?
Seen a few on ebay but from different engine sizes etc. Some seem expensive even second hand.
Any thoughts or help appreciated.

Hi everyone,

Guess it must be a spring in the lock mechanism or something that gives.

Just been on ebay to look if there is any second hand but no luck.

I may post on the forum in the wanted section.

I haven't had chance to look at it properly but wonder if the latch mechanism can be stripped / fixed.

Omega General Help / Door opens whilst driving

Hi All,

I've got a problem with the drivers front door. It has started to suddenly ping open with no real warning whilst driving.

Its happened quite a lot now and is a bit scary. I used to think I hadn't closed the door properly but now I give it a proper slam shut. It starts off locked and cannot be pushed open from the inside but with no warning it will suddenly pop open.

I have tested the latch with the door open and it can't be budged then.

Cannot understand what can cause this and I am a little alarmed that it can actually happen even with wear.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm going to have to secure it from the inside with a rope or something until I've worked it out.

Any help appreciated.

Omega General Help / Pre facelift headlight lens fitted on to newer headlight?

Hi there,

I've got a 2002 Omega CDX and the passenger side headlight lens is Hazy and scratched. I've tried sanding and buffing but i've burnt the plastic making it worse. Ooops!

My question is can an old shape lens from a prefacelift be fitted to the facelift headlight. I know the corner is a more rounded shape but was wondering if they still fit. Think the clips are different too. (I purchased one off ebay and only just noticed they are different). Thought I would ask before taking it apart to find out.

Anyone tried this or know if its possible?
