Omega General Help / Re: Omega 2.5 TD, warm start problem
« on: 01 January 2015, 12:47:35 »
Happy New Year to all OOF members!

Guys, how many is minimal compression ratio for 2.5 TDS?

My engine has compresion 24,26,26,28... and mechanic told me it is too low for normal start for these winter degrees

In autodata I have found information 22 bar is the lowest compression ration for this engine

High pressure fuel pump is in bad condition, is it possible this is the reason for the poor start at cold days?

best regards, Ivan

Since I've changed battery my problems seems to be solved. At least I thought so

Engine starts much easier and it does not crank any more 100 times till finally start up. I noticed fuel leaking on high pressure pump, and changed valve on it. Leaking has stoped but fuel consumption is very high. About 9-10 liters of diesel on 100km

With fall of degrees these days we have some fresh problems with my Maggie LOL

Again engine wont start as it should be. It revs lots of times till finally starts up. First few seconds only 3-4 cilinders are working.

All 6 heaters works fine and I always wait for the heater sound from engine bay before turning key on

Left it in Opel/Vauxall service today and tommorow morning I'm going there to see with mechanics what is wrong. Only hope engine compression will be fine. Otherwise scrapyard will become opinion :(

Thanks alot guys, great to read that!

I have found battery in a local car part store with 110aH and 1000aH starting ignition. Will pick it up in next few days, and hope it will be proper demand for this lazy grandpa  ::)

Hi all,

I have recently purchased Omega 2,5tds '97. estate for cheap price. It is in good condition for its age but have some problems that must be solved

One of the problems is warm start.

I have changed fuel pump in tank (old one had no pressure at all), but the problem still resists. Battery in car is 100aH one year old, but somehow in little poor condition. It seems like the engine is to heavy for it, does not have real start power as it should be with almost new battery.

When engine is cold, it starts ok, but every next ignition after it is problem. When finally starts up it throws much black smoke from exaust. So I conclude it has too much diesel in fuel mixture.

Under the boost the car is pulling really nice, but when standing from exaust smells like fuel isnt burned till end and blue smoke can be seen (in small amount)

I hope that problem isnt in high pressure fuel pump, that would cost me arround 1000 GBP here in CRO, almost amount I paid for the whole car :)

In next days will try to fit new battery 100aH with bigger start ignition (this battery in my car have 750aH)

Would be very thankfull if someone can help me. I drove every kind of cars in my life, from brand new to much more expensive then this one but Omega is really somehow special and would be glad to bring her to good condition and enjoy in it

B Rgd,

Ivan
