Hi, welcome fellow newbie ( I am a newbie myself). I have already had some great help from these guys.

Update. Sorted. Thanks to Darth Loo-knee from a post in 2007. Followed the resync procedure for the old infra red remote and it worked. To say I am pleased is ........obvious.

Thanks for the welcome guys! Temetsy you were spot on. Following the advice of Darth Loo-knee , (posted in 2007) I followed a resynchronisation procedure and it worked immediately! I am chuffed to bits. The car wouldn't start just a click from the starter solenoid. But with luck when it is recharged I am back on the road. Did I mention that I am chuffed to bits?

Omega General Help / Infrared remote key Omega immobilised locked on
« on: 09 November 2014, 21:56:07 »
Hi all, I have an old 1994 Omega which has the central locking and immobiliser operated by a single infra red remote key. (There is no transponder chip in this system)The key body is worn and I usually had to take the circuit board out to operate the main button and the micro-switch simultaneously. I have tried to get an infrared spare key made but they are obsolete and not available through the locksmiths I have tried. As was inevitable the immobiliser has now locked on and although the remote seems to be working (the remote's LED comes on when the button/switch are pressed) The alarm/ immobiliser button on the dash has the red LED continuously on. I am keen to get the car mobile but I am unsure if it needs resynchronising, a new key or if the factory immobiliser can be disconnected or made to work with an aftermarket alarm. All contributions are greatly welcomed.

Newbie Welcome Area / Hello fellow Omega owners

Hi fellow Omega owners. I am on my 2nd Omega and have been reading the forum posts for years. So finally I have taken the plunge. My 1st Omega was a black auto 2002 bought as a stop gap. I serviced it, sorted the wear in the 4 ball joints on the steering rack, 4 wheel alignment, replaced the tyres with worn edges and ran it happily and discovering what cracking motors these Omegas are. Then  a month or so before my first MOT it started to burn oil, coating the cat with oil. I did another oil change with Wynn's Stop Smoke but there was no improvement.

So off to the scrap yard where to my surprise I was offered a red 1994 manual 2.5 td with a bit over 130K on the clock. A quick drive around the car park and I decided this was to be my second Omega. It was my 1st diesel and my first turbo'd car. This was quite a different driving experience but I really liked the pre-facelift front end and the fuel economy was great-at least 50% better than the petrol Omega. On the downside it was equipped with an infrared remote key that was hit and miss with no spare. I tried to get  another with a local locksmith. He was very helpful and tried to get an infrared spare but with no success. I have run it for a few months and I have really been impressed with what is now a twenty year old car. Then the time for the MOT arrived. I was amazed at how little needed doing. The rear fog lamps worked but wouldn't latch on. A second hand light switch has sorted that. The off side headlamp needed the wire retainer bending to hold the bulb in place. Finally a drop link ball joint needed the rubber boot replacing. But just as another year of Omega motoring seemed sorted, the inevitable happened and the remote stopped disarming the immobiliser ( I think it is just desynchronised) and the car is currently unusable. Fortunately my recently acquired Calibra is just about usable. So I will be seeking the forum members suggestions on the general help forum. Happy omegaing!
