Omega General Help / Cambelt change – James V6CDX
« on: 16 September 2025, 23:21:58 »
Well. it's been 4 years (maybe more) since I last had a belt change and I was becoming a bit concerned.

I live in London and experience has shown that few, if any, local garages have the competence (or tools) to change a V6 belt. I began to worry. The last belt change was done by JamesV6CDX of this parish.

I thought it may worth messaging him, explaining my plight, to see if he was in a position to do it again. Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Blow me down!! To cut to the main point, last Saturday he arrived in his lovely Omega and completed the job (at the roadside!) in just a few hours. That included a new belt/pulleys, a new water pump, oil change and air filter change.

The man's an efficient genius!  :)

There is a large semi-selective secondary school at the end of my road and last Saturday was a testing day for September 2026 intake, so there was a constant stream of prospective parents and children walking past and James attracted much attention. One lady asked if he could help as her key fob would no longer allow her to enter and restart her 1-series BMW. He swung into action and discovered the car's battery was dead. I didn't have any jump leads but he grabbed a couple of bits of cable from my shed and got her going. Big hugs from her! Several men stopped to ask him car-related questions and he happily dealt with them all. Also, my postie wants him to renew the cambelt on his 1.6 Ford Focus Zetec and he now has James' details!

It transpires that he is starting a new business (Cotswold Car Diagnostics) and with his extensive knowledge and flexible approach, I can see it becoming a very successful venture.

He deserves it and I wish him well.  :y :y

it would be useful to listen to Alastair Crooke, former British Ambassador.

He has more knowledge and insight than anyone on here. :y

...is shite. Was good in the days of Wogan and the like.

I use 1.fm, when i'm working and online on the PC. It's free, no news or ads.  :y

Just music and whatever genre floats your boat (I listen to classical, because I'm boring :D)

Don't find any of the "so called comedians " funny now, yet no matter how many times I see the Two Ronnies " fork andles" sketch it always makes me laugh, Ronnie Barker was a comedy genius in my opinion.

Agreed. :y :y

Oh God now we have to worry about Cosmic Climate Change!  ;D

Nothing to with climate. My concern is our over-reliance on microchip technology.

The Miyake Event of 12,350 BC is especially intriguing. It appears as a carbon-14 spike in Scots Pine trees along the banks of the Drouzet river in France, with a matching beryllium-10 spike in Greenland ice cores. The event was global and, based on the size of the spikes, very big.

So, yes, they did find such an old tree.

These have always fascinated me. A big one could reap havoc and is one reason (of many!) why I say we should keep cash and not rely on everything digital.

Anyway, I just received this email:

More than 14 thousand years ago, there was a solar storm so big, trees still remember it. Dwarfing modern solar storms, the event would devastate technology if it happened again today. Spoiler alert: It could.

The record-strong storm is described in the upcoming July 2025 edition of the peer-reviewed journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters. It occurred in 12,350 BC and is classified as a "Miyake Event."

Miyake Events are solar storms that make the Carrington Event of 1859 look puny.

« on: 29 April 2025, 00:14:41 »
Unless you read the telegraph, then it's this:

A reliance on net zero energy left Spain and Portugal vulnerable to the mass blackouts engulfing the region, experts said last night.
In what is believed to be Europe’s largest power cut, tens of millions of people were left without electricity, while flights were grounded, trains halted and whole cities were left without power, internet access or other vital services.
The cause of the initial fault in the region’s electricity grid is still being investigated, and the EU has insisted that there were no indications that it was a cyberattack.
However, energy experts have blamed a heavy reliance on solar and wind farms in Spain for leaving the region’s power grid vulnerable to such a crisis.

Indeed. That is what is being surmised on the web.

I wonder how long it will be before they tell us the power outage in Spain, Portugal and parts of France are because of climate change?  >:D
Unusual atmospheric conditions over Spain, apparently  :P

Where did you hear that? The BBC?
You'll believe anything!

Given some of the light-hearted replies, methinks some don't take this seriously enough.

These 'experiments' could have severe impacts for farmers, birds and bees. What they spray into the atmosphere will eventually fall to earth and contaminate the soil. Meanwhile, any reduction in sunlight will clearly affect our all our environment negatively.

Perhaps they want us all to starve. It's crime against the human race.  >:(

I needed to google this.

I imagine it applies more to the elderly and infirm. So plenty on here will probably be familiar with it. :)

You imagine wrong. Anyone over 30 can display symptoms.
