Omega General Help / Engine misfiring
« on: 01 October 2011, 14:21:25 »
I have been experiencing intermittent misfiring. Up till recently it only occurred under hard acceleration or over 3000 rpm. However, last night, after an hour or so's journey it started misfiring continually and the Engine Management light came on solid. There was a smell of burning rubber which didn't seem to emanate from the engine bay, more like from under the car - (exhaust or cat. perhaps?) After a few hours cooling down the car performed OK without any misfiring.
I've just done the paper clip test and got fault code 19 which decodes as "Incorrect RPM signal". However, after starting the engine and revving it to 5000 rpm - i.e. till it started misfiring - the fault code changed to 37 which isn't listed!
Someone suggested the Mass Airflow sensor. All comments welcome.
