the rust converters vary and as mentioned some can work very well but in my experience they only slow down or work for a while and the rust can come back in a few years .by which time it may need a section cutting out and replacing.the other very good method is by sandblasting .this gets rid of all the rust in the nooks and cranny's and is now my go to for any rust issues as it's permanent .(unless it's coming from the other side in which case cutting is the only solution anyway !)
the main thing to remember if its a car you intend to keep is catching any rust as soon as you find it .it won't go away and will be worse next year . in other words :sand it /convert it or patch it if you intend to keep the car only a few years or do a thorough job and protect it well afterwards if you intend keeping it a long time /indefinately

General Car Chat / Re: Best paint for door cards

it's weird isnt it .we struggle to find a good paint for items like this that will last and not flake off etc BUT get any overspray from painting where you don't want it and it takes everything you have and ages to get off !! its as if the paint is saying "il show you haha"

it COULD be the light unit itself if you have one to swap it with and try but it is actually controlled by the central locking unit down in the side of the drivers footwell side and this and the associated wiring can get damp .however this issue can often cause problems with alarm activation or locking or a buzzing from the warning buzzer when it shouldnt .

nothing wrong with fitting a used one in my opinion.virtually all omegas  will be fitted with a used cooler !   same as any other used car and i beleive all the later coolers were stainless anyway ?

it should be obvious if any of the eyelets are bad but yes get it apart first and the pcb out .the cluster is screwed yogether and the pcb held in by a long silver clip !.

its a common fault as they age and you will be suprised just how hot they get behind the dash, wether that is the cause or just down to the age and current flow who knows. all i know is the last 3 i did all had the same fault and were cured by adding small linking wires on the pcb to bypass the bad "eyelets" cant hurt to try as you say. just look carefully and you should see some blackened obvious bad joints. dont try to solder the joints as such, just add bypass wires. if it doesnt cure it then you would have been replacing the unit anyway .

if you get a working cluster you can adjust the mileage to be correct as mentioned or fit its pcb to  your cluster .
if you get a cluster it needs to match the car in respect to getting the speedo reading correct or if you get the pcb out and look at it you should see the faulty joints .(if not send me it and il do it )

it depends on how you are with a soldering iron .and wether you are able /confident in removing the internal circuit board from it .on the last 3 ive seen its always been an issue with the actual board rather than any components on it .the board is double sided and the interconnections can swell and go bad due to age and the heat that the cluster gets subject to.
a replacement cluster assembly (if in good order )will sort it but you are limited to finding one with the correct mileage on it (if it bothers you )or swapping the pcb from it to yours .

so to sum up .
basically if the car drives fine untill you touch the brakes then this means one of two things .
either something is moving when you brake through wear, looseness or softness
OR  the brake is doing something different to the other side

if the full alignment geometry was done correctly then this should have picked up on any alignment irregularities from anything unseen that  could have got bent in the bump .this should have shown if the subframe had moved or wishbone damage affecting the castor angle.i would have expected the camber to have moved ?but should have been reset anyway .
SO  and saying that it still drives and tracks straight we should be ok here
next you need to be sure that the caliper is free as it should be AND comparable to the other side in respect of piston ease of movement, slide pins ,and any other obvious differences if any .you would think that pulling to the right would indicate a problem with the left brake realy but hopefully something should be obvious ,check for any bracket distortion too from

the impact also worth swapping front wheels side to side too (unless tyres are directional)
