Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Heated seats
« on: 10 November 2007, 16:27:43 »
Hi all,

just purchased a 3.0 elite and it seems very good apart from some electrical niggles.

The first is the heated seats. The only one that seems to work is the passenger front. It gets warm at the rear of the base and bottom of the back (confused??? Sorry!!). All the others stay stone cold. I work with air con control systems so I though I could easily find the fault. Problem is, I have nothing to compare the measured values with. Wondered if you guys can help?

I took the rear seat out and checked the voltages out. Got 14v at the switch and 3v out from the switch when on. If I disconnect the heated backrest, voltage is 14v at the base element but still no heat. I then measured the resistances of the elements. Got about 80 ohms pass side, 68 ohms drivers side and 0 ohms (dead short??) on both backrest elements. This is the reason, I imagine, for the 11v voltage drop but are these resistances correct? Can't understand why the base doesn't heat up when the backrest is disconnected. Also, what should the resistances be on the front seats?? While I'm here, can you replace the bulbs in the dash switches? Driver's heated seat illumination is NFG.

Cheers.

Omega General Help / Air con
« on: 10 November 2007, 16:34:03 »
Hi all,

another problem with my new addition to the fleet!!

The air con doesn't work!! When the climate control is on and set to 18 degrees, the air comes in cool. The clutch on the compressor doesn't seem to operate so the compressor doesn't spin up. I'm hoping there's a safety switch that stops the compressor running if the system pressure drops. Am I right? Or is it more likely the compressor is dead?? I'm hoping I can just regas and all will be well with the world again. :'( Is there anything else I can check. Like if there is a saftey cutout, where is it??

Cheers.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

The omega was only meant to be a winter car but it is suprisingly good to drive so I might well keep her a little longer!! That's not more Ford fan disbelief, it's just that for such a big car, it's really predictable and less sofa like than every other big car I've owned (including jags and mercs).

In responce to Amigov6, I have a '72 mk3 estate and a mk5 saloon (cosworth powered). Both are, essentially, bags of bolts, but I can't help loving them!

Afternoon everyone,

I'm new at Omega ownership (only had it 3 days!) and pretty new to Vauxhall having only had a chevette estate in the past and an astra for 3 weeks. I'm really a Ford man with numerous cortinas tucked away.

Wanted a cheap, rear wheel drive motor for dangerous winter driving and the omega lent itself to that perfectly!!! Bought a 3.0 elite saloon for £500 on an N plate. Plenty of car for the money and, although I hate to say it, much better than the Granada or Scorpio.

I do have some, mainly electrical, niggles with it so you'll find me, shortly after this, in the technical section!!

Good to meet you all and please forgive my Ford roots! LOL!
