Thanks for the replies all!

Old and new sensor are identical - both 3 pin oval plugs, marked GM 90 520 850 and PA66-GF30 on one side and Siemens 5WK9 605 2 on the other.

Car is on a 52 plate so imagine mid 2002 manufacture? Engine code is Z22XE and car is automatic.

Seems to be crank sensor could be the culprit? Will order one up when Vauxhall opens tomorrow.

Have you done the basics, like reset the DTCs (fault codes), checked the plug wells and plugs ? checked for new DTCs ?

Hi Dave,

Apologies didn't mention that, yes all plugs removed and checked - all look good. Wells seem fine too. DTC's reset multiple times, and always P0340 always reappears after the first crank of the engine

Omega General Help / Error Code P0340 - Camshaft Sensor
« on: 24 May 2020, 20:44:00 »
Hi All,

Bit of a frustrating issue with my Omega, and not sure where to go from here!

I've had the car for a few months and all running well up until last week. Engine management light came on and codes read - Confirmed P0340 and camshaft sensor faulty or circuit open. Car became increasingly hard to start over the next couple of days until eventually would just turn over and not start at all. When it was running the auto changes were quite abrupt, not smooth as before, and car would not seem to rev over 4500-5000 RPM and would not change up as expected.

Replaced the sensor with one from Euro Car Parts and would not run at all. Did some research here and found out that OEM was the way to go! Replaced with a genuine Vauxhall sensor and now car does start however continues to run rough as before. Tested the resistance of the 3 wires from the plug to ECU and one was reading substantially higher than the others. Traced wire back and found a strange connection of 3 wires just at the front of the engine that terminate into one wire that continues to ECU.

This seemed to be the issue with the high impedance, resoldered and that has resolved. Codes again cleared however car still runs rough!

Sensor has been changed and electrical connections all appear fine from the sensor to the ECU but still giving me the code! Searched these forums as much as I can and although a lot of great info can't seem to find anyone with the same issue! Not sure how to proceed from here so any advice greatly received!

Cheers

James
