Omega General Help / Re: Cruise control on a 1998 S reg CD Estate

Hi Amorok,
I fitted cruise to my 1999 2lt auto and it was very easy to do.
As previously mentioned, the cruise unit fits on the three studs just below the water expansion bottle. There should be a multi plug with a blanking insert clipped to your drivers side strut top. unclip this, remove the blanking insert and plug this into the cruise unit.
The control cable runs from the cruise unit up to the same point that your accelerator cable is fitted too. If you remove the accelerator cable, the cruise cable goes on first and is secured in place by a small circlip. you'll also see where the outer fits against the bracket where the accelerator cable outer is held.
Moving inside the car, remove the steering column cowling by undoing the screws from underneath. remember to remove the adjustable steering column lever by unscrewing it. This will then give you access to the indicator switch. derpress the two lugs either side and slide the original switch out before unplugging the multi plug. If you have a fish about behind the switch gear, you should find the extra multi plug that plugs into the flying lead on your cruise/indicator stalk. Plug this in and the original plug too and refit the switch.
The final bit is to check if the brake light switch has two or four pins for the wiring. You need 4 for the cruise so if it's only got two, change it by depressing the lugs either side of the brakelight switch and pulling it clear. This can be a bit fiddly to do but it does come out!
That's it
Take the car for a run, and all going well, your cruise should work fine.
It should only take about 30 mins all in and well worth it
Cheers Jim

) Anyway, I noticed that if I selected any gear before putting the lights on, the led indicator stayed lit. As soon as I changed into another position on the selector or tried to dim the dash lights, the led goes out and stays out. Weirder by the minute
When you have the car jacked up, check for play by grasping the wheel at both sides and rocking. On some cars, you can tighten the bearing a bit if it's just worked loose, not sure if this applies to the Omega though??
