I managed to turn the light off and the car has again been running for 30 mins without it coming back on.
The codes stored are U3111 and B3F9D(83)
I cleared out all the breather pipes this morning while I was out there, not that I think thats anything to do with it.
I want to be sure the cat is the problem before renewing it.

Good idea! Until mot time.....

Well that'll teach me - ran the car with no problems for about 20 mins yesterday, check engine light back on after a 10 minute drive today. What shall I try next?

I had a similar problem on my 2002 2.2. It was solved with a new throttle body.

I have now replaced the coolant reservoir and the after cat lambda sensor which seems to have solved both the problems  :)
Should I replace the pre cat lambda sensor as a preventative measure or leave well alone now the check engine light is out?

6
The plastic washer is still in place. The float is still er...floating. Haven't done the paperclip thing yet.

7
What did you mean by "move the sensors"?

8
New coolant tank and after cat lambda sensor on the way. Lets hope its not the pre cat one! Thanks guys.

Omega General Help / Check engine light and coolant low message
« on: 22 March 2026, 17:17:31 »
I had the radiator replaced on my 2002 petrol about two weeks ago and all has been well since. On Friday  I drove about 85 miles to my daughter's with no problem. Today I headed home and after about 5 miles the check engine light came on. Then the check coolant warning came up in the car. I checked and it was ok. I got home and the coolant was still ok but the check coolant level warning is still on. I put my OBD2 scanher on and it said the fault was P0420 but it wouldnt clear. I'm thinking I need to change the after cat  O2 sensor again as this solved the check engine light a few years ago but whats with the coolant level warning? Are they separate problems or connected? The car is still running fine.

Mine seems strange in that its an auto but does not use the holes in the side of the main rad for cooling  also its got aircon but the pipes that run over the top seem to be from a separate trans oil cooler radiator. Thanks for your help everyone.

Just had a look at the new radiator - it has two threaded brass holes on the offside facing the engine  which the one in the car does not have. I have checked online and all the radiators for sale for the 2.2 have these. Can they be bunged up or do I have the wrong radiator?

Omega General Help / Radiator replacement
« on: 24 February 2026, 21:02:01 »
Is there a step by step guide to replace the radiator on a 2002 2.2 petrol? I've been putting it off for a while now but really need to get it done soon. Is there anything I need to watch out for?
Thanks.

I can't find a guide anywhere on the forum as to how to replace the radiator, is it straightforward and is there anything else I need other than the new radiator? Thankyou. 2.2 Petrol
