Sorry for the delay, spent a fair chunk of time getting this car running again.  It was gasket sealant blocking the oil galleries and water jackets.  Got it all back together and then it ran like a bag of spanners.  Chained chain and tensioner and everythings hunky dory now.  Thanks for your help Henry and sorry for not getting back sooner.  What a horrible little engine to work on!  :y

Hi again, found the issue...  Got the head back off and the oil galleries are blocked.  Thanks for the heads up Henry.   :y

Thanks Henry,  It is beginning to look that way!  Thanks for the advice.  Had the sump off and was pretty caked so we'll see what happens when it goes back together.  I seriously hope the oil feed ain't the culprit...  :y

General Car Chat / Z14XEP (Astra 1.4 Petrol) 2006 Oil Starvation
« on: 09 August 2012, 11:35:51 »
Hi old friends!

Looking for some help with an Astra 1.4 (Z14XEP) 2006 plate.  Just replaced head gasket on this engine and now the head is not getting any oil.  Any idea or pointers to what could be causing this?  Oil pressure relief valve?  Galleries blocked?  Was fine before the replacement so not sure what's happened.

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks.   :y

Also, no fault codes stored just oil pressure light lit.

That's great Dave and thanks for the quick reply.  The radio/car is actually a colleagues so I'll have to speak to him to see if he wants to go ahead.  Price is very reasonable so can't see why he wouldn't.

Thanks again.  :) :y

Hi, I'm wondering if there is a way to get the radio unlocked without having to take it to a dealer.  I've already tried the method of pressing AS and then turning the radio on.  When the AS button is pressed it shows 0 SAFE, which I assume to mean there are no attempts left.

Can this be unlocked without having to go to the dealer and if not does anyone know how much they charge to unlock it?

Thanks in advance.

The car is a 51 plate 2.2 omega.

On the 2.0 litre it's on the back of the cylinder head.  Feel around the back of the dis for a small disc - that's where the spade connector fits onto.  Also check the wiring for splits it's not uncommon.  Here's a previous post with a picture as well - the picture is with the engine removed so you'll have to work out its location in relation to the other parts.  It's quite fiddly to get at...

I think the front speakers ain't bad in the mig but notice the rear speakers distort quite badly.  I'm about to change mine - definitely paper p*sh.

Not sure about this for definite but I assume you can only use the steering wheel controls with the original head unit.  I'd love to be able to use the steering wheel controls with mine as well.

Is it the mass of wiring at the back of the radio that is causing the problems or is it taking the centre console off?

Yep ICV - also a good idea to clean the throttle body and breathers.

Check the petrol/fuel injector wiring and their clips/plugs.  Happened a couple of times to me -  injector wiring had a split or plugs not seated correctly.  Good luck...  :y
