Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Upgrading ICE

Oh  :-/

That's not good then, it looked to be a reasonable unit for the price. We'll scratch that one off then.

Tunnie's given Alpine a nod, so I'll have a look at their range. Basically I'm after a sub-£100 head unit that plays MP3s, nothing fancy, decent radio reception would be nice as well.  :)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Upgrading ICE

Yesterday I noticed that one of the speakers was sounding fuzzy and DaveDND kindly explained why - it's on the way out. As I will need to replace it I thought I would take the opportunity to upgrade all the speakers and purchase myself a new head unit too.

I'm not after anything fancy, just something to play my vast collection of mp3s and have narrowed my choice down to a SonyCDX-GT410.

Now according to Halfords I shouldn't need anything extra to fit this, but I am sceptical about that. So wondered whether anyone has had difficulty fitting aftermarket head units?

Anyone fitted a sony unit and have any tips?

TIA  :)

Got a set of standard speakers here if you want them mate...£20 delivered...

Thanks for the offer MC, but I might take this opportunity to upgrade the speakers and it's a good excuse to get myself a head unit that will play MP3s too.

Thanks Dave, a little more detailed a reply than I was after but it's always good to know why things are going pear shaped.  :y

I think it's the one in the passenger door, so will have a listen later on and then get the tape measure out so I know what size it is.

Noticed this morning that there's a slight crackling/fuzzy sound coming from one of the speakers on the passenger side of the car. Is one of my speakers on the way out?

The car is totally standard as far as I am aware.

Hmmmm  :-/

Probably the easiest thing to do would be to source myself a CDR500 then.

Time to see what's on fleabay then.

Thanks for the help chaps  :)

Right, a very kind soul on here sold me the above a few weeks ago as I was thinking about upgrading the cassette player in the car to something a touch more modern. Could have sworn it was a ccr600, but that just serves me right for being to eager  ::)

Anyway, I'm now starting to doubt whether it will actually work if I do ever get it plugged in there since the ccr800 comes out of an Elite and they have the Bose system.

Perhaps it's just me being a simpleton, but I thought that it would be relatively easy to swap the current cassette player for the new headunit and then find somewhere to tuck the cdc.

So, will it fit into my GLS and more importantly will it actually play anything through the speakers??

If I recall correctly, someone mentioned this place http://www.connects2.com as somewhere that sells the gizmo to enable you to use aftermarket headunits with the original steering controls.

No idea about the rest though  ;)

The radio was working anyway without the need to reinput the code. I'm only assuming that the CD code was correctly entered because it went from "CDC safe" to "CDC Error" immediately after the code was entered.

My other half has an Astra and the alternator went on it a while back, necessitating a change. To make sure the car got down to the dealer I switched the battery to one that I knew had a full charge for the 3 mile journey. However the CDC didn't like that and has never worked since, displaying "CDC Safe".

The other week I got a new Car Pass for the car from Vauxhall and entered the code, which thankfully worked. However it then displayed the message "CDC Error" and automatically switched back to the Radio. I tried popping the CD magazine out of the changer and this won't budge, necessitating several expletives >:(. I'm now a little bit stuck with what to do next.

Anyone else experienced something like this that can offer any advice?

Been having a look at Ebay for a CDR500 to replace the cassette player and noticed that there are two distinct types, VDO and Delco.

Is there any significant difference between the two of them? I think the VDO is the more modern type.

Definitely Miggy parts of course!

Personally, I am against such an idea, don't like it.

As an Admin, it doesn't break our rules (which we may or may not change in the future, pending further discussion)

That's why I asked!

In which case I shall just stick them in the for sale section tomorrow evening.  :)

Evening all.

I've got a couple of bits that I need to get rid of and wondered whether I was able to advertise them via a "pm me with your best offer by 10:00 tomorrow night" mini auction kind of thing?

They are entirely surplus to requirements and taking up valuable room, so I'm happy to get rid for whatever someone is willing to pay. I just thought 24 hour sealed bid auction might be the best way to go.

What do you reckon?   :-/
