Omega General Help / Re: 2.5V6 Major Running Problems
« on: 04 February 2009, 13:43:16 »
Hi Rob
What and where is the purge valve and being fuel injected how would a leaking fuel vent pipework cause the problems or is that the code 61 that is showing?

Omega General Help / 2.5V6 Major Running Problems
« on: 04 February 2009, 13:12:21 »
Hi all
My 98 2.5V6 auto is causing big problems at the moment, it keeps cutting out when slowing down, running rough when driving along and generally being a pain to drive, the only way to keep it going is to left foot brake and hold the throttle open so the revs dont get below 1500, problem there is the autobox then gets very hot.  When you get out of traffic and driving along it will surge at anything below 70mph feeling as if its running out of fuel (have left the fuel cap undone and no difference) then all of a sudden it will clear and be ok for a while.
It can do it from cold or hot but doesnt do it all the time, sometimes it will be ok for days and other times it will do it all the time.
It does have a slight leak from the left hand cam cover but it is very slight, I have cleaned the breathers out so know they are clear.
I have also changed the MAF in the past as that failed.

Since i have had the car the EML has been on when it gets warm, fault code that comes up is 61, fuel tank vent valve, but never made any difference to the running (have noticed that using the cruise the EML will go out when going up hill and come on again when coasting down hill)
I need to get this sorted ASAP as with the bad weather I am having too use it to commute the 40 miles to work instead of the bike, each day i dont get there it costs me a fortune in lost wages.
Please help.
Rob

Forgot to mention, done the paperclip test even when it is playing up and no other fault codes show.

Ive got two spare for mine.

I'm not sure how, but I went to a scrapyard... and when I got home I found two D2S's in my pocket  :o

 ;D

Its amazing what you find in your pockets after a trip to the breakers, I think the parts are lonely and jump in there by themselves  ;D

Omega General Help / Re: Car seems slugish when starting
« on: 02 September 2008, 13:27:45 »
Voltages seem ok, running is a little high though,  Take the car to a battery supplier and have them do a drop test on it to be sure, only takes a few mins to do.
If the battery passes i would start looking at earth points, battery terminals, starter connections etc, take them off, clean and grease then refit, if its still the same think it will need a new starter motor.

Mine started to be sluggish on the starter, not all the time but every few days or so, then got left stranded in Tesco's car park with a car full of frozen food, I tried all the tricks, hitting it, shorting the terminals etc but total failure of the starter motor, solenoid and the motor failed at the same time!!!!!!  Its auto so couldnt even bump it.
2 1/2 hours later got towed home by the RAC with a boot full of defrosted food  >:(  The stupid controller sent the patrol to Rainham ESSEX, not Kent where i was.

Omega General Help / Re: Omega 2.5 elite heaters???
« on: 01 September 2008, 18:33:46 »
If you look under the dash by your left foot you will see 2 metal pipes, feel them to see if they are getting hot with the heater on full hot, if one is cold then the matrix is blocked, mine was.
Had to replace mine in the end, the PO had put radweld in it to seal a leak on the matrix, when i flushed it the joint split after about 25 miles!!!
Good luck.

not trying to hijack the thread but on the subject of TC faults, my 98 Omega will light the TC warning if i am a bit to eager with my right foot in the wet, sometimes it will just flash (think its supposed to) other times it will stay on till i restart.
ABS, speedo and cruise work just fine even when the light is on, any idea's ????

Well done it, turns out the end had split off the core at the factory welded joint, bad design by the looks of it.
Decided to cut part of the fuse box holder frame out as well to give better clearance, just made a few brackets to put it back together and can tell i have even been in there, just have to glue the vinyl cover back on when i get some glue.

Just read about cutting the dash on another post, does anyone have pics or can point to them so i can where to cut.
Thanks

Didn't see any valves in there and water flowed out of both pipes when i took them off, i know water was going through the matrix as there was heat coming out of the vents (and on my leg) I think the PO may have put radweld in to stop a leak and but flushing the system out a weak point has now let go.
Couldnt see exactly where it was leaking, too much water and steam but it was around the joint that was bubbling.

As above, this Omega is a real F >:( >:( >:( ing pain in the ass.
Left exhaust manifold is blowing like mad, had the starter fail 2 weeks ago, still got an on going problem with the EML, the MAF went at the weekend.
NOW the heater matrix decided to spew BOILING water over my left leg  :o  :o  :o NOT HAPPY.
When i got the car the heater was naff, could get more heat from rubbing 2 scouts together, decided to try flushing it out while under the bonnet fitting the MAF, out with the hose, pull the pipes at the bulkhead, flushed both ways and reconnected, filled it up and vented it out, ran her up checked again and again, all was good, heat at last.  Did about 10 miles checking the MAF and went home.  Had to go out this evening for a 5 mile round trip and on the way back herd a hiss and felt a severe burning on my left leg followed by loads of steam from the driver footwell.
Not 100% sure where it has failed at the moment, could be the join between the pipes and the matrix or the matrix itself but either way i am at the point of burning the thing.
Looked in my Haynes and oh what a suprise, the dash has to come out to change it, like hell, feel a big saw moment coming on to cut the dash apart, REVENGE  :D
Is there any common weakness on the matrix joint or is it likely to be the matrix itself.  I didnt touch the pipe inside the car, only pulled the joints at the bulkhead under the bonnet.........
 :-?
