Omega General Help / Re: Help re fanbelt Elite TD, please
« on: 08 May 2008, 11:22:17 »
OK Guys, this is what I want to buy from one of you lovely people for my 2.5 BMW TD, because the original one apparently is moving around due to being worn out, and this is why the new fanbelt only lasted a month.
It is the crankshaft pulley which is circumference 15 3/4" and its aircon pulley is circumference 14 1/2" . If you happen to have a reasonable fanbelt and aircon belt available also, so much the better as these are quite dear too.
Will arrange payment, collection if near enough to Bedford or pay for best method of sending, to suit you best so we can get this car back on the road.

Garage bloke has been out to look at compressor but says he can see nothing to identify what type it is. He says tomorrow he will get the car in from his outside area and take the pulley off and measure the two parts. I hope this will be ok to identify it. If not I shall have to push bike across town with my camera.
Remind me to keep poor Ellie out of his place in future as he evidently doesn't have the mechanical sophistication for a car of this distinction, (or should that read ____ complicatedness) even if she is very old!

Apparently I was somewhat misinformed. What we need is the crankshaft pulley, which is I'm told is two pulleys bonded together. One drives power steering, water pump etc, the other drives the aircon belt. The car being old 'N' reg, the makers who used to make this don't anymore so we would very much like to buy one through here.

Have tried but not yet got in touch with friend who took the car into garage and should be able to identify the part properly. Will give more info as soon as I get it-keen to get this motor on the road! Thanks for your responses.

It's being suggested we should get rid of the car as proposed 'fix' might only last another month-but they only just took £100s for doing the last lot and never said there was a rubber block nearly gone. If anyone on the forum knows about this rubber block eg where we can get one new or old so the garage it's in, or anyone else (maybe more competent?), can fix it, surely that would be more economical than scrapping the car. Also we have to have an auto as my husband has a damaged leg so can't drive a manual.

Old 'N' reg. Failed on Highgate Hill, was bodged by nearby "garage" who damaged power steering pump bracket as we found out 48 hours later, but at least we'd got home and to an important hosp. appt. Bracket and duff fanbelt and aircon belt replaced by local garage. Now 1 month later fanbelt has gone again and we are told it's because oil has got onto and perished a rubber spacing block between 2 pulleys somewhere down the bottom. And they can't get a part for this!?! Comments and ideas please, location Bedford.

Hi all, we have been loving driving this Mark 1 version apart from all the bits that break, had it a couple of years. Our mechanic takes its welfare personally! Will be posting the latest problem in, hopefully, the right place. Based in Bedford. Dee

My total sympathy. You know what, she was yelling so loud and foul at you because she KNEW she was in the wrong but is one of those that won't admit they were in the wrong-ie guilt! Some of these so called mums make me ashamed to be a woman. Don't some kids have 'em?!
All the best, Dee

I have received a quote from them (tel 08452749172) for the elusive crankshaft pulley for my 2-fanbelts-in one-month 2.5TD, via 1st Choice Spares internet system. Just wondered if anyone has user feedback on them. Thanks, Dee
