Omega General Help / haynes manual
« on: 12 July 2006, 21:36:00 »
hi peeps,

just wondering how useful is the haynes omega manual ?

i am gonna need to do a couple of things to the car, but i have no idea what is what when i look under the bonnet, i will use the guides here, and some other guides i have seen (ahem)

when reading the guides, obviously the authors are naming certain pipes,  and other stuff which is familiar to them and probably most other peeps as well, but to me the naming of certain things (pipes etc..) doesnt mean nothing, as i have no idea what im looking at, unless its a battery, dipstick etc....

thats why im asking if the haynes is any good, i just need something that can illustrate and show me exactly where said pipes or whatever is, as you can see i am a complete noob at motor's, but with the help of you guys and some determination from me, i am determined to get semi competent under the bonnet.

btw  is anybody selling said manual ? postage and a fair price for you included (ronnie possibly ?)
you never know, with the knowledge and help on here i might become the equivalent of a human omega project, rofl.

right better get back to wife, ten year married today  :o,  and she's nipping my box about me being online and not in the publine.

If you need phone number just pm me , only consider this if and when you have the time m8, dont like putting people out at my expense, thanks.

lo again all,

after reading more posts from all over, deffo looks like a heater matrix failure, and amba06128 and the Boy look to agree. Also from reading other sites as well as the boys post, replacing the HM looks like a non starter for an engine noob like me.

The price for me to get it done in my current financial position, is also not gonna happen, this leaves amba06128's suggestion, i am going to have to attempt this as there is no other way out just now.

Can anyone supply me with a diagram or picture, of the route the flow and return pipes to the HM  please, or link me to a pic.

amba06128, i see exactly what your saying and can get my hands on copper pipes, ties small jubilee's or whatever, but after i connect these flow pipes together, will this not leave two gaping holes at the matrix, and will this have any serious issues for the time being?

Also did you remove anything, and if you did, what was it?, to get to the pipes. Would i with zero experience be able to do it? thanks for your help so far  :y

This brings me to a more crappy point, after i try amba06128 suggestion and say it works, this i know can only be a stop gap. Is there even any point in getting the HM replaced ? by that i mean, the car is probably worth a grand maybe  :-/ but to go spend maybe half its value repairing it, is it worth it ?, i know only i can decide this, but just wondered would any of you ?

Anybody in the dundee area? theres a 12 pack waiting for you if you can help me with amba06128 suggestion, you can supervise i'll get on with it.

God i like to rabble on eh! lol

Omega General Help / Steamy windows, notthe good type

Lo all,

long time no post, due to a bunch of reasons.

Anyhow, car has being ok i suppose, cept for the exhaust has been really noisy for the last couple of weeks, more so when starting up, neighbours must love me  ;) that and the 17 mpg  :D havent been able to get the exhaust fixed as i left my job just recently, and thought i could put up with it for a month or so till i got a new job or started working away again.

Picked the wife up from work the other day, was just about home when i heard hissing, damn got a puncture i thought, just as the thought entered my head, steam starts gushing out from under the steering wheel, tells her not to panick, shits it myself and pulls over, car had seriously overheated, but there was no warnings signs of it, tempature was fine on the dial, car was stinking off burnt wires i thought! cooling tank was empty, had read before that the heater matrix could be responsible for this, unfortunately im super skint just now, probably cant afford one and dont know where it is or what it looks like  :-[ headed back to the car a couple of hours later put more coolant in, car started fine drove it home.

It has sat there for a couple of days till i had to drive it again today, had no choice, something urgent happened. driving back home same again, front and back passenger foot area are now soaking, could see the water pissing of the brake pedal where it had ran down from some where, engine bay was bone dry and hardly any coolant underneath car, the oil filler cap is a creamy colour but that maybe due to the fact its eating petrol, and i was only using it for short journeys due to funds.

Tbh the car is due for an mot in a couple of months, i knew i was going to need a couple of tyres and get the exhaust fixed, no doubt this would help the  mpg, but if this new problem is going to cost to much to fix, im thinking about just punting it to the scrappys, things are a bit too tight just now to be spending a lot of money on a car probably only worth a grand.

Has anybody got any suggestions for a cheap fix just now, till i get back on my feet ? tbh im not mechanicaly minded at all, and if anybody does know of a temporary solution i would probably need a diagram and thorough instructions, hope that doesnt sound cheeky, just trying to be honest.

The car:

elite 2.5v6
99 T reg
saloon
105,000
fmdsh.

Thanks for your time and sorry for the long post.

Any easy upgrade to the ealier omega lights has to be a good thing, my friend has a m reg cdx and the nightlights are terrible, that is unless he has something wrong with them, but i doubt it from what ive read previous, i will post him the link to this auction, thanks.

General Discussion Area / Did i miss out on a bargain?
« on: 06 February 2009, 19:47:39 »
Was on ebay today, am looking at getting anther elite, new shape this time though. Saw this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT&item=230322679711

and missed out on it by twenty quid, had the wife not been sitting behind me it was mine  :(

However they say every cloud has a silver lining:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=110347725122

The only thing about this though is i'm not sure if the 2.5 elite has the same amount of basic toys as the 3.0, does it?

Lastly if any of you guys where bidding on this 2.5 with the information available, how far would you go?

General Discussion Area / Trade sites?
« on: 06 February 2009, 19:33:44 »
Hello all,

Just wondered if there was such a thing as a trade site out there?

My father died not long ago so i have ended up with a 2.0 dti vectra, honestly though i would rather get back into an omega. Not really sure how you would value it against an omega though. By that i mean how would i say right, i reckon mine is worth such and such, yours i worth such and such, cant be bothered with all the hassle of selling it.

That would be a great result, what a forum.  :y

Interesting Ken T, never noticed these sort of places before.

Just wondered if any of you have travelled a fair distance for a car and got a dealer down on the price?

I seen a couple of cars i like on autotrader:

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/cars_popup.jsp?did=19714&pageid=2&originalid=&gid=nogroup&tid=40&start=1&distance=0&adcategory=cars&channel=DEALERPAGE&id=200849324565886

Above is one of them.

I mean you can only ask so much over the phone, you really need to see the car to see if its described as advertised. However even if you do see a couple of things you dont like, the dealer knows you have come a long way, possibly 400 miles in my case. Therefore has you by the short & curlies.

Anyone any experience of this?

hi all,

like the new site  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

just thought i'd say hi, and also some of you may have remembered i was looking for an omega, (posted about it on von)   now have an omega, managed to get something close to what i was looking for,

2.5v6 elite, t reg
full main dealer service history up to two thousand miles ago, all done at same dealer,
new mot two days before i bought it,
all the toys work,
99 on the clock,
all previous mot's,
no rust   :)

phoned dealer before i bought it, spoke to service department, he confirmed on computer that car had all work done by them, got him to confirm cambelt change, nice chap, then told me at lengh about it was the tensioners that go, rarely the belt  it's self, that eased my mind, but am gonna get it redone too be on the safe side  ;)

pics : http://www.dantat.co.uk/omega/

have had a couple of minor probs will post about them later, just an introduction  :)

Hi all,

my name is Daks ( yep thats my real name, long story, thanks Dad, lol ) i am 32 and have now been married  10 years to my lovely wife  :), we have no children and as such enjoy going out on the weekends, drunkerds really, lol.

I normally work as a brickies labourer or sparkies, depending on the job at hand, i also help people fix thier computers as a small sideline, nothing major, just helping people that know less than me, which is  not much  ;)

i use to be hard into computer games such as counter strike, and have had my own servers websites etc... this is not really important but in all the time i have had servers, ventrillo channels and webbys etc.. i have never disclosed the information i am disclosing above, which to many is not much, but for me is a lot,  this i believe is for the fact that i have lurked and posted occasionally on von, and have found the majority of people especially those that have came from the last site and those here now to be a very decent bunch of people.

I am pleased you guys, Ronnie, Laidback, the boy and marks Dtm have decided to create your own website, sorry if i have forgot anyone. And help the many people who know very little and those who know a lot with your wealth of knowledge, i for one appreciate it as im sure many others do, thanks  :)

Right off to the pub, take care all  :)
