I hear what you're saying re genuine sensors, and I've now located mine and know what to look for. Thing is, the connector I cleaned out to get the car going isn't connected to the crank sensor at all. I'd like to replace both the crank sensor and the offending connector, which looks old and dodgy, but I still have no clue what it is!

Anybody recognise the white and blue connector in this picture, as I still think it's involved in my problem?

Ah-hah! Fault code 19 three times in a row. Looks like it is the crank RPM sensor after all.

Excellent, can't thank you enough. I love neat tricks like that which prevent me getting ripped off by dealers!

Off now to google replacement sensors!

Hi

Couldn't get the car to start this morning it just kept cranking but wouldn't fire. The ECU light was flashing about once per second so I figured it was a sensor problem. Right under the engine behind the splashguard was a White and blue connector that was full of oil from a leak I had a while back. I cleaned it out and bingo!
The connector looked a bit dodgy so I thought about replacing it or the sensor - but what is it? I assumed it was the crankshaft sensor but according to Haynes that bolts in by the oil filter and doesn't have an under-engine connector. This connector was up at the front of the sump by the timing belt cover.
Any body know what it is? If I go to Vauxhall they'll charge me 75quid to connect to a diagnostic before discussing the problem.

OK, no need to remove the liner, pulling fuse F49 (29b in the diagram) appears to do the trick without disabling anything else. (Haynes manual IS good for something!) Will see if that affects the cold start tomorrow morning...

Consider it unplugged, once I get the wheel arch liner out! ;) Could a jammed/faulty SAI cause the motronic fuse to blow?

I'm in the Forest of Dean, Gloucester side. It may be a dumb question, but what's the secondary air injection pump actually do (apart from inject air!), and what might make the motronic fuse blow? And would either explain my cold start problem?

I'm having big problems starting from cold, and I think it might be related to a couple of other issues which the good old Haynes manual doesn't cover at all, so over to the forum!
I have a 1999 2.5V6 Petrol CDX Auto with Aircon. For the last few weeks I've noticed a loud, high-pitched fan-like noise coming from somewhere under the nearside front wing, behind the headlight, just after starting from totally cold. The noise runs for about a minute after starting then shuts off. In the minute it's on I haven't been able to locate what's causing it but as it's when the engine's stone cold it shouldn't be either of the cooling fans.
Just recently cold starts have been a REAL pain, having to crank for ages and usually flooding the engine. This morning it just wouldn't start. Checking the fuses under the bonnet, one of the 30A fuses was blown. It's at the rear of the box, on the left as you look at it from the front, and is labelled as "28a(Green)" under the relevant posting on the FAQ forum. I have no idea what this fuse does, but when I replaced it the car started (after cranking for about 5-10s with a flooded engine) and this time the "fan" noise was distinctly dodgy, like there was something caught in it. After a minute it shut down and the car was perfectly happy (and will be till tomorrow morning as it only has a problem when totally cold).
Looking through the circuit diagrams in the Haynes manual I found there's a 30A fuse in the "Coolant Heater" circuit (whatever that is!) but there's no other mention of it.
Question is: Does anybody know what the "fan" noise is, what the mysterious fuse does, and if there's something jammed somewhere how to free it?

Not 100% it's coming from the front, no. Now I've got the undertray off most of it seems to gather under the rear, but there is still some oil on the aircon pipes at the front. Had the car since February so no idea what's been done previously.
If there's a leak from the oil cooler would all the oil go to the rear, or could some of it drip to the front?
I was hoping to avoid removing the induction system but may have to bite the bullet since all the replies I've had seem to be associated with stuff underneath it! :(

I did think of the cam cover gasket (first thing I tried) and there was oil on the LH cover, but that turned out to be from the oil filler gasket - I replaced that and it's completely dry up there now. I'll take a look at the oil cooler/block unions, but it's the intermittent nature of the leak that's puzzling me. I last cleaned the engine up a couple of days ago and nothing's come out since...

Hi,

I have a T reg 2.5V6 auto, and it's been dropping oil on the drive. I replaced the oil filler gasket which stopped a leak onto the rocker cover, but it's still dropping oil (about 1/4 litre a month I'd guess) from somewhere. The drip location varied so I removed the undertray, cleaned up all the oil I could find and waited. I now know the leak's on the passenger side of the engine, but I'm finding it hard to narrow it down.

The oil filter seems to be on tight enough, but I think the leak's near the front of the engine and it's getting onto the accessory belt, which is flinging it everywhere so it's hard to localise. It's a slow enough leak that I can't just run the engine and look for drips (or maybe I'm just not patient enough!)

One thing that's really odd though is that it will go for days without leaving a mark on the drive, then leave a puddle, even though it's driven every day. Also, if I check the level every day it will lose none for a while, then the level will drop. It's almost as though oil is only leaking when some system kicks in. It doesn't SEEM to be related to the aircon, though I'm not 100% sure I can rule that out.

Does anybody have any ideas before I give up and pay Vauxhall to have a look? I get the feeling they'll just strip everything out at vast expense and would at least like to tell them what I want done even if it's not something I want to have a go at myself.

Any suggestions welcome!

I took the screw out, everything's slopping around there but I just can't get the two bits apart (with the amount of force I've tried so far). Is it just a question of pulling the rear bit backwards, or do you need to stick a screwdriver in anywhere?

PS interested you say it'll be the heater pads - is that a known weak spot?

I'm almost embarrassed to ask this, as I got stuck before I could even start a job! My driver's side heated seat isn't working. Fuses all OK, so I thought I'd check that there was 12V at the connector when the switch is on. Problem is, I can't get to the connector!

Hayne's manual says to undo the rear end-cap of the trim panel, unclip it from the trim and withdraw it, but I can't for the life of me see how it's clipped on. Even probing around through the VIN inspection hatch I can't find the clip, and the panels are made of very thin bendy plastic. Before I apply too much brute force and ignorance and snap something can anybody shed any light on how to get the darn thing off?

BTW, the car's a '99 pre-facelift CDX,
