Omega General Help / Re: Who's changed a heater matrix?
« on: 28 September 2008, 11:21:10 »
OK guys, got busy with a hacksaw blade and cutting knife, also had to cut away part of the relay surround trim but got the old matrix out and the new one in. I suspect the old one has had a leak on it at some time as there was evidence of mould under the liner in the drivers footwell, and judging by the amount of crap that came out of it in the sink, it was blocked with the evil radweld or Barrs..also the 2 small pipes to/from the header tank were blocked solid, then it dawned on me that thats why it warmed up so quickly and ran around 95C. Now she runs around 91-2 which I think is spot on, the fans can rest and the heater is blisteringly hot. The previous pics by Abiton say it all but I took some anyway, email me if youre thinking of doing this job and need some info.. easy but very fiddly!
Massive thanks to Abiton for the info and pics here, much appreciated  :y

Omega General Help / Re: heater problems ???????????????????
« on: 19 April 2008, 12:27:01 »
OK guys Ive got an MV6 with a cool heater too.. Ive pinned it to the matrix and heres how I did it. Take the vac pipe off the HBV and 'borrow' a nearby vac pipe, fix to the HBV. Now gently suck and blow on the other end of that pipe and you should feel the valve pulsing (ie opening and closing), it prevents water going to the matrix when you suck and vice versa. You can also check your air con while doing this, set to MIN and the pipe you have removed from the valve should now have vac present. If for some reason the heater now goes hot it would point to a sticky HRV - unfortunately mine didnt so its the matrix. I might try some radflush as the coolant wasn't in top condition and as someone commented, it may have been radwelded yuk. I dont think airlocks are a problem these days on modern cars unless you have air getting in (popped head gasket) or water pump is very tired, then you would get a hot engine too. Hope this helps!

Hi everyone and thanks to laidback for the welcome. I bought a 99 MV6 Miggy a few weeks ago and although it has its faults its a lovely car. I wrote off a Jag XJR last year so I wanted something to calm me down  ::)
