Omega General Help / management light problem
« on: 30 March 2011, 16:49:16 »
Hi everyone,

I have an 1996 (N reg) Omega 2.5 V6 with about 110,000 miles on the clock. Lately when driving, and even more bizzarely even when I've been stationary once with the engine obviously running, my engine management light will come on for a brief period and then go off again. This happens intermittently, but frequently in a relatively short journey.

I've been trying to monitor when this happens and I think its when I reach the 2000 rpm stage around 30 mph.

The engine doesn't do anything, i.e. no strange sounds or acting peculiar, but its worrying me as this should not be coming on and off.

My mate and I have changed the lambda sensors some time ago and we changed the airflow meter as well as we took my car to a garage and instead of paying them to do it, we did it ourselves and the car ran very smoothly for the last 18 months or so.

Before I take the car to a garage to ask them to plug into the ECU to find out if there any fault codes recorded, I wondered if anyone had a simple answer to this problem please.

Your thoughts and suggestions would be very welcome.

Thanks. Paul  :-[

Hi everyone,

I have a Vauxhall Omega 2.5 V6 on a 1996 N reg. Over the past couple of days the onboard computer which displays outside temp, stopwatch, fuel consumption, range etc is staying on even though the key has been removed from the ignition. This is resulting in my battery being drained, and having to use a booster pack to jump start the car.

Any ideas as to what the problem is ????. Could it be a simple case of replacing a relay ???. If so where would I find it ???.

The actual display unit has broken letters and numbers, so I don't know whether I should kill 2 birds with one stone, and relace the whole unit with a second hand one anyway, but don't want to do this if the problem is somewhere else ????.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Paul

Omega General Help / Engine Management Light
« on: 15 November 2008, 18:14:39 »
I have an Omega 2.5 V6 on a N reg (1996), and I wonder if anyone can provide some advice, having experienced the same problem.

On the last 2 long journeys I've been on (which haven't been consecutive), the orange engine management light on the dashboard has suddenly come on and stayed on throughout the rest of the day. At the time I was on a motorway, and was using the cruise control.

Then you go to start the car the next day and no light at all. The time frame between the 2 occasions was probably a good 10 - 12 weeks, very puzzling !!!.

I haven't gone back to my garage to get them to plug in a diagnostics machine to the ECU and get the fault code if one exists, as they say its going to be £ 30 for the privelage !!!. So I thought maybe someone may be able to point me in the right direction in getting the problem solved.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Paul
