Omega General Help / Re: No go - imobiliser issue?
« on: 11 May 2008, 14:12:56 »
Weird again... After parking it up on Friday and trying the fob every time I walked past her, today she decided to work perfectly again. The only thing I did was to take her out of park and into neutral, then back again, so far she hasn't faulted again yet, I reluctant to take her anywhere for fear of getting stranded again.

The plot thickened today.

As I left work the car did exactly the same trick of arming the moby and then refusing to unarm.

The red light on the dash stayed on and didn't flash. No matter what I tried there was no way to get the moby off again, so I called the RAC out to it, the guy said the key was not producing a massive signal, (the key is only 12months old and I fitted new batteries 2 nights ago after it first started playing up, weird how it takes 2 c2025 batteries.) any way the RAC man reprogrammed the ignition key and away everything started working again, away I drove, after my 25mile home drive I stopped got out and used the fob again and the thing is armed in imobilize and won't deactivate again.

Any ideas or is it time for the great crushing machine of doom?

I parked up today to eat my lunch sat in the car with the engine off for about 30mins and then when I came to start obviously the moby was active so I pressed the fob and nothing happened except the interior light flashed twice, took me a good 10 to 15 mins before for no reason at all the fob locked and unlocked the doors and all was well again. Any ideas what may of caused this. I'm a little reluctant to drive her till its sorted out for fear of getting stranded.

I thought it would be good to leave the windows down and the car alarmed, especially outside work, or on the drive at home.

Ok so there I was doing a bit on the car this afternoon, when I decided I need to start the engine, when I noticed the alarm switch on the dash, any on know what it does?

Anyway I pressed the remote to lock and unlock thus disabling the moby, but instead of locking the doors I got the cabin light flash 3 times at me, every time I tried it did the same. I then locked the doors with the inside door lock and then opened it the same way, then tried the remote and it all worked fine again. Is this a code of some sort or am I just going insaner?

Omega General Help / Re: Few problems.
« on: 05 May 2008, 22:50:25 »
Fixed the brake lights / Cruise control today. I took the switch out ready to go buy another and when I checked it with my meter it showed as working so I tried sticking it back in and it worked right until I got the wires into position to push the switch back into the bracket then it all stopped again, so I figure that the multi plug wires/pins are a little worn, Now if I get round to it I'll replace the pins in the plug at work, but for now I cut the little lug off which makes the plug only fit one way round and fitted it upside down, problem solved all works again now.

AH ok that would make alot more sense, I'll pop the plastic bit off and look at some point I'm sure.

Fixed the rear blind yesterday, emptied all F.I.L.'s stuff out of the boot and reconnected the wire.

Gonna get a new brake switch tomorrow hopefully and sort that when I get back from work.

I've also noticed a couple of the lights in the switches on the dash have stopped working properly, I've seen the blue LED kits but am not a great fan of blue everywhere. But figured I'd have a go using different LED's does anyone know how easy they are to replace?

In answer to the rear blind, nope absolutely nothing when the switch is pressed, no lights, noise or anything.

Ok so as I said in my intro I have just been given this omega, and I love it. The old owner (my F.I.L. to be) said that it was pretty much shot and not worth spending time on, but I like it and have decide to put in a little effort and fix the few problems so I can enjoy it for a while longer. :)

The problems I have are below and as I don't know the car well yet any help will be much appreciated.

1) Brake lights not working. I have checked the fuses and bulbs and they are all fine, so i'm guessing at the switch.

2)Cruise control seems not to be working. Having said this, I'm not sure what all the buttons do yet, so it could be me not using it right, or I also thought it could be linked to number 1)

3)Horn not working. easiest to attach a new horn I think.

4)Air con not working, I have been told the pump is seized, is this an easy thing to replace?

5)The rear blind thingy doesn't come up when the button is pressed, I was told it used to but stopped recently.

6)Small areas of rust on the door bottoms. My plan is to simply replace the doors on this one.

Any advice welcome.
Cheers
Chris

Omega General Help / Stalks
« on: 04 May 2008, 11:00:19 »
It just occurred to me whilst think about my previous post, that I have no idea what the buttons on the end of the stalks actually do. I assume the large one on the cruise side starts the cruise working, although as it currently doesn't work I have no way of being sure, and I know the large button on the other stalk cycles the display. Could some one let me into the secret as to what all 3 buttons on each stalk actually do please?

Newbie Welcome Area / Howdy Folks

Hi all,

I've just been donated an 'M' reg Omega 2.5 V6 Diesel Elite Saloon, which has a few minor problems to sort out, but hopefully I should be able to do all the work myself. I have been driving a Ford probe for the past 2 years and enjoyed every minute of it, but as I have a little girl I felt I needed something with a little more leg room, and all I can say is wow.

Cheers
Chris
