Omega General Help / Re: Rattle , Squeeky Noise
« on: 05 June 2008, 23:24:43 »
Thanks for forwarding, entwood; this seems a good prospect for curing my occasional "am I sitting in a bus?" vibration-at-idle problem.  :y

Already cured two annoying rattles. Killing this last one, along with swapping out the aftermarket exhaust for a genuine, should return the car to silent swoosh mode.

Omega General Help / "Original" windscreen?
« on: 01 June 2008, 20:18:53 »
Is there such a thing as a "genuine part" windscreen for the Omega or are they all supplied by third party agents like Autoglass nowadays? If the latter, are the replacements as good as the original? Is there variation in quality from different suppliers? If I went to a main dealer would they just get Autoglass (or some such) in to do it?

Mine has suffered scouring from poor quality, and/or infrequently changed/cleaned, wiper blades. Not an MOT failure but very distracting when driving into a low sun. I'd like to change it at some time but want a pucker item.

Thoughts on what to do and what not to do appeciated.

Omega General Help / Re: Ash tray jammed shut

The cloth-wrapped table knife worked like a charm - thanks Turk. A bit of downward pressure whilst pulling outward seemed to be what's needed.

As TheBoy predicted, the mechanism is faulty so it jammed right back up again when shut and pushed in (as if you were opening it). I've now set it cosmetically flush until I replace it.

Is replacement a complex job or straightforward?

It was empty and clean, btw.  :D

Thanks for the replies. I'll have a go at it today if I get the chance.

Omega General Help / Ash tray jammed shut
« on: 31 May 2008, 23:35:56 »
The centre console ash tray on my 2000 model facelift is jammed shut. It also looks to be about 5mm further in than it would be if it was flush.

Any tips on getting it released? I don't smoke but it bothers me that something isn't right, plus I'd like access to the 12v cigar lighter socket.

Probably sixteen million fag ends stuffed in there, with door glued shut to sell car as 'non-smoker'.  ;)

Hello all. Have been a lurking guest viewer of the forums for a while but thought I’d join up and get more involved. I see some members have 10,000+ posts worth of involvement - it’ll be a long time before I get anywhere near a tenth of that, methinks!

Previously had a 1998(R) 2.5 CD auto saloon that I bought in 2002. Truly splendid device, but it suddenly became very ill early this year and I had to have it put down. Replaced it a couple of weeks ago with a 2001(X) 2.5 CDX auto saloon. Really wanted a more recent 3.2 Elite or MV6 estate but an urgent end to choosing time plus the desire to avoid the retrospective Darling (scumloid) tax knocked that on the head. I won’t moan too much though; this one is a very clean and shiny silver with just 45,500 miles, all the MOTs, service stamps etc.

Clarkson may scoff at “Vauxhall” ownership, but he’s a git (albeit a funny one) and we all know how good these rear drive cruisers are for motoring enthusiasts with practical needs but without deep pockets. Hopefully, the Omega Owners Forum will help keep these fine cars on our roads for longer than they might otherwise have lasted. I look forward to playing my part in that.

Peter

You'd think after fifty years of this we might actually get a decent summer.

Impressive!

If you duck into the low cave just before the steps up to the highest bridge you can pick up some shotgun shells and a small medipack.  ;)

me back to a newbie  :-/ :-/ no thankyou.

Heh, I might make it past newbie tonight; but at my post rate I'll be a junior member for many months.
Maybe I should start acting like one.   [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] :P  :D

Gordon Brown's futuristic eco-towns to fine residents for driving out of city limits

What's really terrifying is that the alternative is Cameroon, also a statist greenoid. We are going to have to do more than b*tch and moan if we are to stop them crushing us.

It seemed quiet enough around Derby this afternoon and I paid 113.9p for unleaded at Sainsburys. I didn't put a full tank in 'cos I don't need the car on a daily basis and other people do.

Hope you all find the fuel you need over the coming days.

...she says as she comes into the shop "I have only put £10 in as it's daylight robbery here" with that she stomps back out, leaving the two poor souls bemused, thing is she was right!!

This is actually a good example of why "profiteering" (i.e. letting the normal rules of supply and demand apply) is good when commodities are in short supply.

She obviously only needed to buy £10 worth at that time, and the steep price caused her to buy only as much as she needed. The next guy in might really need more fuel and there will be fuel available to him. Those who really need will pay, those who don't won't.

Other than emergency provisions at the height of a crisis, it is best to let the market sort things out. You can, of course, let the state fix the prices of things to avoid the "profiteerers". To see the full benefit of that approach visit Venezuala or Zimbabwe.

When the buyer was test driving the brake pad warning light came on so I said I would sort it before he collected.

If I'd said I would sort the issue as part of the sale then I would sort it.
