Cleaned out the cabin/pollen filter chamber today and made sure the water/gunk can flow freely out the waste pipe.

Got it cleaned out just in time as water was nearly up to the bottom of the pollen filter.

An interesting read.

Just waiting for all the court cases attributing car crashes due to the driver looking at the screens. (like the use of mobile phones)

Thank god I still have my Omega's. They have plenty of buttons/screens for me but I am not looking forward to the future when I replace them.

Changed the engine oil and filter on my 1997 2.5 Elite.

Followed that with a car wash with new shampoo and a new foam sponge!!!! Luxury!!  Certainly looks a lot better now.

Just some more thoughts.

Bungs/Grommets. On my 1997 model year Omega which I had from new so not molested too much.

There appears to have two types of bungs/grommet in the wheel well. One is a solid type half way up the wheel well and the other is a different type of bung with a small hole in the centre.

When I worked at Vauxhalls (Luton) on the Cavalier assembly line I also remember the various holes in the lower bodyshell let the "rust proofer paint" to exit the car as it passed through the paint dip process and before applying the final paint (Doctor Gollum)

I like the idea of using DumDum on that seam. (johnnydog)

Yep. Robson the seam is the one in the boot channel where the water runs off the rear screen visa those little rubber flaps and along the boot channel.

I recently had to do a bit of welding in the bottom of the spare wheel well in my Omega. The area around the plastic bung in the bottom of the wheel well had rotted out.

It looked like water had been pooling in the bottom of the well over quite a long period and the small hole in the bung had become blocked. At this stage it was not obvious how the water was getting in.

So. I managed to get my 65 year body into the boot whilst the wife sprayed water from the hose pipe.

It took a while, but I found that there was a significant amount of water dripping from the large seam at the corner of the boot opening channel near to the rear screen. This seam is visible both outside and inside the channel that the boot fits into.

It appeared that the seam sealer around the joint had given up. I added more seam sealant around the seam both outside and inside. No more water now.

I repeated the process on the other side just in case.

I also found a small rust spot behind the boot rubber seal which on further inspection became a hole!! Well worth removing the rubber seal and checking the condition of the bodywork behind it. There are also another two smaller seams behind the boot seal which need investigation.

Got the welder out today to try and fix the rust in the bottom of the Omega spare wheel well. Been putting this off for months/years but after a vigorous attack with a screwdriver the bottom just fell out. Hey Ho.

Still got my two 2.5 Elites. Both on SORN at the moment but not driving that much nowadays other than going to the local tip using the wife's car.

Also working on my 2000 Jaguar S type which is rotting on my drive. I dismantled it a few years ago. It was going to be a quick repair!

Spend more time in the garage and loft looking for the carefully stored and labelled boxes of Jag parts that I removed several years ago.  !!!!

Been to Eurocarparts to get a few items as they have a Xmas promotion and a new store has just opened near to me for "click and collect"

Got my stocks of Crossland cabin filters (ECP ref 507720128) for my two pre-facelifts. Excellent snug fit in the plastic frame and look identical to the genuine Vauxhall cabin filters I removed.

Also treated myself to a few Crossland pollen filters  (with a charcoal coating?)  (ECP ref 507720038). Was not sure that they would fit a pre-facelift but tried one out and it fits perfectly.

Following a vigorous jet wash session on my little used Jaguar S type (2000) I found a major lake of water in the near side carpet

Going into panic mode I attempted to drain the "lake" using a Vax.

Next job was to find out how the water had got into the interior. Examining the various door seals they all looked in good condition and the sunroof drain tubes were clear.

The soundproofing on the near side front firewall was also soaking wet which suggested that the water was coming via the engine bay.

After stripping out the front screen lower plastic cover I found the remnants of a mouse/squirrel nest and the drain hole on the near side was stuffed with have eaten walnut shells.

Looks like the water had backed up and flooded through the heater fan intake and into the car.

This car had hardly been used since Covid. It just goes to show that living in the countryside has it's downside.
