Omega General Help / Re: Weird problem
« on: 07 August 2008, 22:18:06 »
Sorted..New alternator fitted.. ::)

I noticed from cold that it's tickover is up then down then up then down until it warms up then it is stationary, also noticed the handbrake light dimming as the revs dip a little then it returns to normal.

What do you reckon, clean the breather hoses?

did you get the oil light progressively brightening as you revved also?

Thank you for that, I will get cleaning in the morning and check the voltages...

....If it is the voltages would it be prudent to replace the alternator or are there packs you can buy to repair them yourself?

I have also been informed that the engine's idle was uneven at cold start, it dropped and then sped up a little, then dropped and so on until it had warmed up.  My wife drives the car mostly as I own an Escort rs200
and forgot to mention it >:(

What if anything are you trying to diagnose by measuring the battery voltage? Alternator, battery (which cranks it fine), modules?

Don't misunderstand me I am relatively well versed in engine mechanics however this has really stumped me, I have heard of a bright oil light going off when revved but not the other way?!?

Omega General Help / Weird problem

I have owned a 2.0l Omega CD model for 4 years now and has given me NO problems and with over 120k on the clock!

The weird problem started as I accelerated from a roundabout, in the LCD dash screen it said 'Automatic Transmission' then the oil light came on and grew brighter as the car accelerated.  After a mile or so the auto trans went off in the display but the engine oil light remained on, not to mention the car went into limp mode as I left the roundabout.

To my reckoning the oil light should go off when accelerating as the pump is supplying pressure at higher speeds and only come on at low revs i.e. tickover.  With it getting brighter as the engined revved higher it has totally bamboozled me, the oil is fine and was changed 3 weeks ago inc a new filter.

What could be causing this weird behaviour?

I have been looking at a really nice 'X' plate 2.5 V6 CDX Omega, very clean and 88k miles, I don't know anything about these engines as I owned a 2.0ltr are they good engines, do they have any weak spots and can they be repaired at an average cost?

Hello,  I know it is not an Omega but wondered if anyone knew the answer to this very bizarre problem?

ALL the indicators are ON when the key is out of the ignition and the car locked!!

When I turn the ignition on they ALL go out!

Weird or what?

It is a neighbour of mine and she desperately needs her car for work, as she works in an old peoples home who are mentally ill...

Thank you
