Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Radio not working
« on: 27 December 2008, 13:54:01 »
I pulled mine out perfectly fine with a hanger, infact i didnt even use all 4 holes, just one at a time, pulled each corner...Out it came...Saying that, i have a decent Pioneer headunit, so am not bothered if i break a silly tape player lol.

Ive done loads of audio installations with many different headunits/standard tat, yet to go wrong with the good ol' hanger or screw driver.

However looking at what TheBoy said, fair play, ive got a mini-facelift :)

Dont buy them pointless.

Go check your house for a wire hanger, poke into each hole and pull out stereo.

I done it yesterday on my Omega and done it many times on other cars.

You also need a 2mm allen key to remove the 4 little screws on the headunit as well

Omega General Help / Re: cant get over 4500 rpm
« on: 27 December 2008, 10:36:16 »
Oh god, the dreaded X20 XEV engines!

Right, do a paper clip test first of all, no doubts it will flag up cam sensor.

Also a dodgy knock sensor cam flag up the code for the cam sensor!  But it should flag up the code for the knock sensor too.

Initially it told me something wrong with cam sensor, changed it, still something wrong with cam sensor! Changed it again...Now its telling me cam sensor and knock, so i only changed knock the final time and hey ho problem solved.

Call up autovaux and ask them for the "improved" version, basically the cam sensor has some proper shielding and thicker wires to avoid failing every few months.

Also as for the 4500rpm limited, its called "limp" mode, basically a safe guard for the engine. When i got my calibra, i was a n00b and drove around in limp mode for months, was no fun :(

God im gonna sound like such a n00b but i havent had to really replace lights before....

Is the headlight the "driving lamp" and "mainbeam" the one we use to "flash" with...e.g. highbeam etc

e.g. when i turn the lights onto the max for night driving without pushing the indicator stick for mainbeam, which bulb is the main light?

Are the 2.6 in the Omega same with those used in the Vectra GSi?

From what im told the 2.6 in the Vec GSi was "tuned" by MSD, to have slightly higher lift cams and supposedly creates around 190bhp, opposed to the book figure of 170 for the 2.5.

Im not sure if the Omegas use the same engines tho...
The engine is similar, but there are differences - certainly different intakes on Vectra-C. Omega tuning will be different, partly due to multiram setup (to flatten the torque curve), partly because its heavier.  No special cams in any of the Omegas.

Cheers dude, thats helpful  :y

Maybe im biased, but i think i would go for the 2.5v6, simply because its been around alot longer, so i assume there will be more info about it around the tinternet. Oh and the fact that you can use the 3.0l cams on the 2.5.

Altho you might be able to use the 2.6 MSD cams in the 2.6 Omega engine, however im not sure if you can, infact havent really heard anyone do it!

Best ask on MigWeb.

Omega General Help / Fault Code no. 17
« on: 24 December 2008, 13:52:00 »
Hi all,

since ive had my timing bit fitted by a mechanic, the eng mngt light randomly comes on and then off.

I done a paper clip test and get fault code 17   Knock Signal Circuit 2

The mechanic told me when he was connecting the HT leads they were all the same lenght so he wasnt too sure where each one goes...odd...

The engine does seem to be running fine, how can i resolve this issue? Where is this sensor located im assuming he hasnt connected it properly/damaged the sensor.

I also get 31 as engine is off (2.5 v6) and 12 as sequence start.

Any ideas fellas?
