Hi all,
sadly my a/c has ceased work, unfortunately at the wrong time of the year so would like to fix it!  8-)

Aircon has been checked and got a top up last year. Was working perfect after that. Meggie stood most of the winter. New year longer journey including congestion revealed no aircon :-/ and got the temperature up to 100 degree once! :o So heating on, windows down, temp went down to moderate 80 degree. This hasn't happened again so far BUT to me it seems that the temperature regularly gets too high when warm outside or when queuing on the motorway (90 degree+). The vans usually are kicking in even when the engine is switched off.

With this being "occasionally" I am suspicious that I have a wiring/contact problem. Me not being that confident with electric things:
- Am I right that my thermostat is linked to the aircon?
- Any common places where the wiring/contacts like to fail?

Would be grateful for some tips prior to sticking my head under the bonnet!  :)
Thanks in advance!
Good weekend to everybody!

Omega General Help / Re: Water temp is going quite high
« on: 24 July 2009, 11:43:06 »
@all: Thanks!

As the cooling water is absolutely clean as it was before I think I will start with the lazy check first and clean the fins with pressured air from the inside.

I usually fill the cooling system with proper radiator liquid and top up with de-ionized water to avoid limescale. But the previous owners/workshops might not have bothered......  :(

Omega General Help / Water temp is going quite high

[size=10]Hi guys,
I noticed that when driving with the a/c on (not ECO) that my water temp goes up to 100 degree!  :o
Liquid has been renewed while having a new water pump and cambelt fitted, level is perfect, coolant is enough there. I noticed that there is an additional electrical water pump straight behind the top of the radiator. Could that be gone?
Can I test that pump while simply fitting two cables to the socket and to the battery?
The fan itself is working and starts correct and even runs after switching off the engine (when too hot).

Thanks in advance!

Must be the door straps!
You do not hear any noise because they have broken loose therefore not working at all!
Check the straps when door is open!

Alright, thanks! I will dismount the bottle and check where that one is situated. I checked with a torch some days ago but couldn't find any cable leading to the bottle.

Omega General Help / Coolant level sensor, WHERE?
« on: 03 February 2009, 15:39:32 »
I've tried the search option but want to make sure that I am on the right way.
Board Computer mournes about coolant level even if it has just been topped up to the exact level. I've read that the sensor should be located at the bottle but there is none! I even couldn't find a loose cable just in case any crazy person has done a quick fix to the bottle only.

Standing in front of the car looking at the radiator there is a valve/pump located right hand side from the radiator. This shows some kind of scale at the bottom and I think I will need replacing it. Any idea what that valve is for? Any idea of the price?

Thanks again!

Omega General Help / Wheel size on a 3.0l Meggie
« on: 15 December 2008, 14:12:36 »
I just bought a set of steel wheels from a 2000 reg Saab thinking they would fit, THEY DON'T!!!!  >:(

Allthough it is a 5 stud wheel with 110 diameter it only comes with the dimension 6x15 ET49 which is not enough to fit over the front calipers! Knowing the issue from the Golf Mk2 G60 I started at the front and after mounting one wheel and trying to turn it, it came up with scratching on the outside of the caliper.
Quick check on the spare wheel - why should stupid me do that BEFORE buying a set of wheels  :-[ - I would have needed 6 1/2 x 15 ET33.

As I want to go to Snowdonia next weekend I will hardly be able to find the right set of wheels before going!  :( And I hate trains!!!  >:(

So just for the record: If steel wheels are wanted this is the dimension you need: 6 1/2 x 15 ET33, 5 studs, 110 diameter

Omega General Help / Re: Caramel cream inside oil lid / filler - HELP
« on: 15 December 2008, 14:16:59 »
Alright than! Thanks for your replies!

This is the first time I have this issue with one of my cars and there have been others, 4 and 6 Cyl engines which didn't deliver such a thing although they were driven over a similar distance too.

But alright, knowing this will let me check more often the oil filler.

Breather pipes have been cleaned two month ago, will redo it next spring with a new set of rubber sealing rings to have it done 100%!

@ Lizzie Zoom: Ok, I am doing 4miles in the morning and 4miles in the evening mainly. On Saturday it has been 60miles with most of it on the motorway.
At least if that is the solution I am more than happy to clean the filler every up and than by hand!  :)
Thanks for your reply!

Omega General Help / Caramel cream inside oil lid / filler - HELP
« on: 15 December 2008, 13:09:56 »
:o I've seen a lot of stuff in that place but nothing similar to this!

When I wanted to check my oil level I unscrewed the lid and when removing it there was only on the lid itself and the very top of the filler this creamy, like caramel looking stuff sticking.
I have cleaned it completely and will check in the next days again!

Any idea what that was?  :-? I beg this is not my headgasket telling me that it is going to blow up!!!  :-[

Omega General Help / Re: Bolts type for steel wheels
« on: 14 December 2008, 14:10:24 »
@all: Thanks for your replies!

I really would have thought that the conical ones got the proper oposite like they have with the alloy wheels (usually).
Originally they came from a Saab.
Will check the length for sure before doing any bigger moves!

Omega General Help / Bolts type for steel wheels
« on: 13 December 2008, 20:20:27 »
Hi all,
I have just bought a set of steel wheels which came - lucky me - with the bolts.
Although the former owner assured me that the bolts are genuine and belong to the steel wheels I think they don't do.

I think I need radius bolts like these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/14mm-X-1-5-Radius-Wheel-Bolts-VW-Audi-Lancia-etc_W0QQitemZ220261318532QQihZ012QQcategoryZ72257QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

But what I have got is this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-replacement-aftermarket-wheel-bolts-Std-X-Long_W0QQitemZ220267273405QQihZ012QQcategoryZ72257QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

As mounting the wheels with the wrong bolts can be quite dangerous I would like you to check if I really got the right ones.

Thanks!

Omega General Help / Which rims do fit Meggy?
« on: 24 October 2008, 16:38:26 »
I am currently shopping arround to find a set of 4 wheels / rims for my Meggy for the winter.
Is it true that I can also fit and legally drive 5 stud Vectra rims?
Any other rims I should look after?
Anybody having a spare set laying arround?  ::)

Cheers!

Omega General Help / Re: Reversing lights

There is a switch attached to the gear box which seems to have gone.
Not sure where but you should be able to spot it, not many things attached with a cable to a manual gear box.  ;)
