Omega General Help / Re: Alarm Query ??
« on: 15 January 2009, 13:23:47 »
This is the same problem I had with my sounder. Removed sounder from car (cut it open to see if batteries could be change,) then pinched wife's nail file and cleaned connectors on sounder (corroded), sprayed wiring connector block with some spray de-watering (borrowed from work) (Only lightly) dry it off.Taped up sounder refitted to car, connected wiring back to sounder, one little bleep.Left car alone for about an hour.Tested by leaving wife in car, locked car and asked her to start moving about to trip sensors. alarm went of as it should. Problem fixed and have never had a problem since. Sounder seems to be working fine and still alarms when it should.Problem fixed.
Warning, when you take of wiring plug from sounder will alarm for @5 minutes. VERY LOUD> Pull plug and run.
Might be of some help.

Just a little question about brake discs.
What is the recommended minimum thickness of standard GM front discs,
Haynes manual states 21/25 for 4pot/6pot up to 98 and 25mm for all models 1998 onwards. My manual only covers up to year.99, have the overall sizes changed for models after 99 (i.e diameter, max and min thickness). Have not been able to find new manual for 2002 mv6.

Omega General Help / Re: Exhaust system
« on: 23 September 2008, 06:54:30 »
Just had mid boxes and rear fitted to me mv6 estate by my local grease monkey for £250 all in, Gm part vx  stealer supplied.
As for easy fit. 3 bolts snapped on flanges for cat to mid box, but soon resolved with a little heat and 4 new long nut and bolts.
Sound and pulls better now.
Original system lasted 6 years. Only changed because tail pipe hanging on by rust.

Update. cut the sounder open. Little green across some contacts on back of pcb and corrosion on main pins. cleaned up pcb with clean tooth brush and also cleaned main pins with one of the wifes nail files. Sprayed plug with some water repellant. Taped sounder back together. reconnected plug. One blip sound on reconnection. Stapped souder to nearest pipe outside of skuttle. been on now for 72hrs with out any problems.May have cleared fault. Will leave till weekend then refit under skuttle if no problems.
Hoping all fixed.

Eventually got round to extracting the power sounder. little bit green around the contacts but not that bad.
Has anyone just cleaned up the contacts and stuck it back in, Will this clear the problem?.
Has anyone taken one apart? How easy is it. Have idea to cut round seal with junior hack saw or am i wasting my time.

Just back from a little noise making. parked car locked waited 10 minutes . just to see if it goes off to prove a point. B****R  nothing. anyway could take a chance lifted skuttle and pop'd plug with a long screwdriver. waited 5 minutes noise ended.
For the Boy. Yes it was the sounder.
Does anybody know of a good tech 2 guy around the Staines area (TW18).
Car now parked fro 20 min no alarm(or hazard flashing)
Could it have been the sounder after all.I will say the plug looked a bit green. I'll wait till the weekend to investigat further on this,
Thanks for all the advise.Ian.

IT'S BACK. cost me £50. report says :
Investigate alarm keeps going off.Carried out data checks on alarm. Carried out actuator test. found alarm still activating.Turned off ultrasonics and further tested traced to be either within ultrasonics or ecu.
Suggested renewal of ultrasonics first as cheaper repair.
Actually got to speak to guy working on car. His first words were  "What a b***h of a job". He said he when on tester no faults found.reprogrammed system no faults but then alarm went off. stated that he spent 4 hours checking all door switches and sensors. only thing stopped alarm was switching off int ultrasonics. tried this for an hour and no alarm.suggested that this may be fault but also could be ecu.Asked about sounder unit stated all ok.
Well paid me £50 took car home parked hit the button got out locked car walked in. just got the kettle on then oops the alarms going off.
I've never heard such language from my wife.
reset alarm waited for a minute alarm went off.open car, opened bonnet found that they hadn't taken cable tie off bonnet switch which I had put there to close switch as a test.Been nealy 45 minutes now and no alarm. Bonnet still open. OOPs spoke to soon, just reset alarm.
Question is bonnet switch heat sensertive even when tied closed?
Could it be the ecu (ps where is it?). or is after all the sounder.
I'm of to take for a drive to some where open and pull the wires of the sounder then let it run flat. will advise later.

Bit the bullet. now at dealer for diagnosis. just have to wait and see.
Another site states that it could also be voltage drop on main battery causing problem.either will be money.

Thanks dbug. Don't quite understand. Robbo states tape wires and refit sounder unit. Does he mean reconnect wires to sounder and then refit sounder, if unit duff why bother refitting.? Or does removing wire and letting alarm sound for 4/5 minutes run the internal battery flat therfore resetting sounder???

Ello.
This is my first time on this site so I'll apologies now if you've heard this question and problem before.Ive looked through the site for relevant problem but their is 549 pages and I'm desperate.
Problem alarm keeps going off after @1hour after car has been parked. check all doors and bonnet closed windows closed ok. set alarm goes off again.have tapped closed bonnet switch as per other answers from alarm problems found on site.No idea.
question should the alarm still sound when when alarm has been deactivated via key fob ? and all doors open.,mine does.
when alarm in on or off mode and it is not alarming it makes what I would say were fault code sounds.
Does anybody have any idea as to what problem may be and is there a list of fault codes for omega alarms
Model in problem MV6 2.6 est 2002 plate
