Mate, there are no more allen screws apart from the grubs you correctly identified as blocking off the holes.  The tool you need to remove looks like this but if you don't want to splash out (or wait!) the best alternative I know is to cut up an old wire coathanger and refashion into a similiar shape - insert, release and pull, easy as... ;)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / CCR6000 CD Flap

Hi, me again  ::)

The meg has the standard 4-disc changer double din thing in the dash, for the first time ever the standard stereo is decent enough not to justify immediate extraction and binning.

The problem is, the flap that should cover the cartridge unit has gone astray, which looks a bit rubbish.  More importantly it is more ammunition for my beloved to argue I have bought another stupid, obsolete, oversized, thirsty, tatty knackered white elephant.  She does not appreciate immaculate bodywork and a beautiful engine so much, the details are everything!

Can this flap be replaced? If so does anyone know the part number or better still have a spare one for sale?

Many thanks again  :y

Hi, just a quick question for anyone 'in the know' - I have a fully functional CCR2006 head with a broken CD flap and now a donor faceplate with all flap parts present.  I clearly need to remove the unit then disassemble the front plate by removing the various star bolts before swapping the mechanism to fix the problem.

Has anyone done this before and if so would you mind telling me anything I need to watch out for?

Also, am I likely to incur a 'CDC SAFE' problem by buggering about with the internals?

Any advice would be warmly welcomed  :y

I have seen some on flebay at £299 which seem a bargain, but think are unbranded so a little cautious!
Ebay + unbranded = don't touch with a 10 foot bargepole, honest mate.

Some can appear identical to branded but with substandard parts, others are just awful full stop.

That said, if your experience is different, great!

Adaptor definitely needed to modify radio slot to fit standard double din - ebay often a good sorce for these but quality varies a lot - check feedback!  Also a number of different colours available so pick one that matches/contrasts how you want.

Then fit and post piccies!  ;D

Unsure that JBL make a 2 Ohms GTO speaker though (other than sub)

Thanks for the input, very helpful  :)

Thanks for replies.

So - 4 ohm good, 2 ohms bad?  The JBL GTOs I was going to put in the front are 2 ohm - best to change them?  IIRC it was one of their selling points!

Regarding keeping the head unit.  My old Mondy had an awful sounding HU despite being top of the range with an amp attached to it - my friendly local ICE specialist informed me this was because the factory heads often have a restricted EQ curve to stop customers blowing the crappy speakers and claiming under warranty - they sold a 'corrector' for this but at about £200 so easier to replace the lot.  Do you know if this is the case with the Vauxhall units?

Many thanks  :D

Thanks for reply TheBoy.

Is it just the main 4 speakers - what about the tweeters?

What is 'special' about the Bose amp and why does the HU need to be in a different mode?  Not come across much in car Bose stuff, but I know their clock radios are really good!

Hi guys  :)

Have participated in a few thread discussions re stereo upgrades as well as reading back and am still not sure on this one.

What is the difference between the facelift stereo systems in terms of quality?

The reason I ask is my Omega has the standard CDC2006 4-disc head unit.  To me ears this sounds vastly superior to any factory fit unit I have heard before - especially in terms of bass reproduction.  I do not yet know if the speakers are stock or have at some point been upgraded, but they do sound pretty nice, lacking id midrange though.

Obviously the standard units complement the interior and work perfectly with the wheel controls & GID so I am not keen to change without a good reason.  So - what would the options be with regards upgrading to a Bose setup?  I have read previously this is not compatible with the 2006 head unit, not sure what it does work with?

Would this be a better option than splicing in a small active sub and if necessary upgrading the speakers?  Have an old 200w Pioneer tube knocking about which needs a home.  I figure it is probably only worth upgrading the head unit when the budget allows for a fancy 7" screen integrated satnav which is what I really want.

Does the Bose offer such a massive increase in sound quality that it is worth the hassle (and if so anyone got one for sale  ;D)?  How much of a job is it to splice in to the car (2000 saloon)?

At the moment my initial plan is to bung a set of 6.5" JBL speakers which I already have into the front doors, connect the sub and see how it sounds (unless I find something better in the doors).

Some advice would be much appreciated before I start - just how do the standard Vauxhall setups compare to (modest) aftermarket replacements?  The 2006 heads seem to change hands for insane amounts of money on ebay...

Really sorry for all the questions - hope I make sense!  ::)

I have got a Pioneer DEH-P6900UB (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/CarAudioVideo/Source/CD-Players/DEH-P6900UB) which came off ebay a year ago.  US model so does not do RDS or some radio frequencies however unlike UK model which is ipod only has a straight USB port allowing you to control ipod via radio controls but also any other mass storage type USB source (plugs in great to NokiaN95 8gb).

Not going to put it in the Omega due to the fact it will look plain awful - when funds permit planning to probably go for one of these http://caraudiogiant.co.uk/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=17 which I reckon will blend nicely - even the display is similiar to the GID.

Intrigued by this one though http://caraudiogiant.co.uk/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=252 - any opinions to whether it would look good or naff? TBH the Pioneer has 'minimal buttons' and it's a pain in the arse, even changing radio station involves endless jog/push/twist combinations. Works great on the ipod though  ;D

No, you're right - I forgot about the vents.  Not the best cars for easy ICE installs!  Worth it in the end though - I'm about to attach my old Pioneer active sub tube to the standard head unit initially with a speaker wire to RCA adaptor I have lying about, just to see what difference it makes.  Guess the head unit will be going in the bin eventually though :'(

Mind you, compared to my old Mondy Ghia X (finally sold today) the standard sound system is amazing!

So, can anyone say for sure what brands are able to be used with an adaptor to give GID information?  IIRC Sony and Kenwood have had the capacity in the past but not all head units will work...  That said, if the adaptor mentioned above is similar to this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-STEERING-DISPLAY-STALK-ADAPTOR-SONY-NEW_W0QQitemZ170267994115QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item170267994115&_trkparms=72%3A1346|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12|240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 will it physically fit behind the unit anyway?

Edit: Phil B, have you thought about placing the amps under the seats?  Even with electrics quite a bit of room...
