Newbie Welcome Area / V6 Omegas

Hi, I am not yet an Omega owner, am seriously considering purchase of 2.5 or 3.0 V6 as present vehicle not up to task of pulling our caravan. Have noticed that many for sale on E-bay seem to be suffering from head gasket or oil leak problems, is this common for these vehicles ?
Which is best choice between manual or auto ? Any other info/opinions would be appreciated.
