Omega General Help / Re: Jerky drive and tick over
« on: 10 November 2012, 22:55:47 »
as what has been said above really. You won't be able to get all the oil out so expect some blue smoke when you start her up. Also make sure who ever does the cam cover gaskets uses the gen vx black sealant. When I first got mine, gave it a full service then didn't touch it again for a year, was looking at the plugs and a few of the wells were full of oil and it had been like that for around 11months with no running problems at all. Change the plugs and see if that helps, if not, look at the ht leads and coil pack.

Another thing I would suggest is get a multimeter and see if your alternator is pumping out the right juice, just before I sold mine it started to run like a dog, flat battery, rough idle, hesitation.

good luck

Omega General Help / Re: door lock problem
« on: 10 November 2012, 22:37:53 »
hey plym, I had this on my passenger door. It's a sticking actuator on the central locking mechanism, you'll need to take the door trim off and give it a good clean and oil,if that doesn't work you'll need to replace it.

Omega General Help / Re: over cooling
« on: 10 November 2012, 22:33:59 »
Hi mate, my first guess would have been your thermostat but as you've changed it you can rule that out. I would give the system a full flush and reverse flush, if that doesn't would then it could be your radiator isn't on it's last legs.

Cars for Sale & wanted / 1999 3.0 V6 Elite saloon
« on: 26 February 2012, 19:25:35 »
Evening everyone, the time has sadly come to sell the omega. No service history when I bought her but in the 3years I've had her I've had done:

cambelt, tensioners, pulleys and waterpump (will need doing late this year/early next)
new a/c condensor and regas
new crank sensor
cam cover gaskets (done by mr darth)
replacement rear shocks, genuine self levelers (again done by mr darth)
auxillary belt and tensioners
replacement alternator
replacement dis pak
new battery fitted about 2 weeks ago
reverse parking sensors fitted (sensors connect to the little box in boot but not connected to a power supply)
new trak rod ball end for the mot
regular oil changes and services
4x new goodyear efficent grip in feb '11, less than 6000 on them!

She has tax till october and mot till feb '13 and has currently covered 99200 odd miles. Being the Elite she comes with everything, ac/cc, cruise, heated creame leather (drivers one doesn't work), heated mirrors and washer jets, factory sat nav, rear blind, etc etc. Also have the carapass for her.

The only downside is the rear o/s wheel arch is rusting a bit, nothing a wire brush and a bit of elbow grease won't cure and a few minor car park dings. Hopefully the pictures below will show what good condition she is in.

I'm looking for £700 ovno, feel free to msg on here or phone 07850840212 if you have any questions. I will also throw in 20l of genuine vauxhall oil :)

thanks

mike

General Car Chat / Re: Beware Audis
« on: 25 January 2012, 14:55:44 »
Who's to say the replacement engine doesn't develope the same fault as the original? Bit disconcerting when even audi can't diagnose the fault and resort to 'ah sod it lets put a new engine in'. Vorsprung durch fail imo

General Discussion Area / Re: Off to France? Well did you know...
« on: 23 January 2012, 22:04:12 »
the transfer coach i recently boarded from Turin to the french alps had a breathalyzer built in to the dash of the coach.
The driver before setting off  had to blow into the device. Whether it was linked to the vehicle system i dont know. Recent-ish accidents involving national express seemsto indicate this is not a bad idea.

Yes mate, if the system detects any booze in your breath it will not allow you to start the coach/vehicle. Very good idea imo

Omega General Help / Re: Mot Repairs And few other bits
« on: 23 January 2012, 21:12:36 »
Evening all hope all I'd well in land of OOF!!! ::)

I've just had my MOT Failure and all 4 bushes have failed on the front the two rear shockers need replacing and a tyre so not too bad (£171.56)

Also my rocker cover gaskets need replacing

Also I am having problems with coolant loss after 2-3 days no leaks visible but when I put coolant in it will last for a day or two then leak from above GBOX and empty the tank again and am stuck as to what it is the HBV was done last year just put new plugs in.

Also gearbox seams to hold gears every now and then turn engine off and back on and it's fine

When I changed the plugs there was cup fulls of oil in plug 6/4/3/1 have cleared that out

The reason I'm telling you all this is I am asking for some help From a local OOF member please I need help

Classic symptoms of failed cam cover gaskets, make sure who ever does it use genuin vx parts (including the grout) and do both sides at the same time.

As for the coolant leak check around the hbv again, get a good torch and see if you can find any dried or even wet coolant the try and see where the source is. The shocks should be too shocking ( ;D ) as I'm guessing there the normal ones and not s/l ones.

sorry for the lack of response guy, haven't long come out of hospital. Thanks for the thought less but the battery was only low because the alternator wasn't charging as much as it should. I've got an alternator and dis pack winding their way to me so was wondering if I could impose on the generosity of the forum and ask if anyone can fit them? I can't drive for at least a week (as a result of the operation) but the car is on my drive and there will be free flowing cups of tea/coffee and a few beer tokens :D
