Omega General Help / Re: whats it supposed to be like
« on: 19 January 2009, 01:52:17 »
I agree with you all the car is a good drive its just me. I cant stand the traction control it cuts in so I turn it off most of the time. I have had a few little slides where I realy wouldnt expect it. and a few times its been me trying to get the power down on a bend and the back just slips out nicely. I just plan find it heavy. I much prefered the Vitesse for the 220 bhp and the much lighter rear end. have have driven loads of Vauxhalls trying to get the feel back of my old Cav 1.6 D reg that was so nice to drive. I have had the v6 vectra, 1.4 Cav H Reg, astras corsas and a fair few vectras and I havent enjoyed one apart from the D reg.

the book compares the vitesse Standard model not the 220 bhp but the older 193 bhp as 0-60 in 7.3 seconds the top speed is 143 MPH at around 29 MPG

The Omega 2.5i V6 CDX is 163 BHP 8.2 Seconds 0-60 142 MPH and 25 MPG

My Vitesse was 220 BHP 0-60 was around 6.9 seconds by my GPS I had it running at 140 then ran out of road, and if I drove it gentle I got 190 miles from 20 of fuel at around the 91 p per litre mark.

Saying that the V6 Omega has been doing farly well. I put £20 in and it did 160 mile the first time, with my few floors to see how it drove. then I got 170 driving real nice, and then this time dirving aorund town and to chopwell and back HILLS it did 130 miles and the prices are back to around the 90p per litre mark.  so its doing quite well considering is 1/5 of a ton more or 200Kgs more.

It also has a really good turning circle for a big car. and has loads more torque like tons of it. I towed a rover 400 in the firsat week just a short distance on the a frame and it was a dream compared to the Vitesse.

:-/ I am a little undecided as the comfort is much better seats are like a arm chair. and the screen clears so fast from frost, and the air con is much better, and the rear blinds real handy when the arse behind has his lights on full beam. and the kids live it. and the wife. I am just finding it hard to get used to the heavy steering and the cars tracion control. and the fact that i cant go round my local roundabout at 40 I have to slow to 25 or it loses it, and yes theres loads of tread in the tyres.

In Most cars I can change gear and out perform any auto box.  I just dont get the Traction control anyway in a rear wheel drive car its better with it turned off, I nly found it a problem in the Vectra where the front wheels went light leaving you with no steering the Omega is not too good at holding the road due to its heavy body and running gear but it is so much more well behaved with TC off. mind you I am used to wheel spin in the Rover vittese. which is much cheaper to run and much faster. and has better handling

No full front to rear pipes have already been done and the front pipes needed doing.  The cats were good but a pain to do.

I managed to get the brakes working Okay with new pipes and ajustment. but they were real close to metal and the disks were just passable, thats why i decided to change the diska and pads all round. but its being a pain. you would have had a garage bill of 2-300 just for the labour replacing the brakes and the price you would have had to pay for the disks would be around the £20 -30 each mark.

If you want to buy it back after im finnished it may be up for sale. I have found my cash a bit short since i bought it.

The 406 I was driving round in blew its fuel pump after I bought your car and its not a small job engine timing belt needs to come off etc. the pump is part of the engine. so the scrapyards wont allow it to be taken off.

Well finnaly got the bolt out . I made somthing up to try and pull the bearing out from the font using a solid brake disk and a bolt with a 32mm impact socket on the rear and a bolt inside that. it pulled the bearing 2mm then the brake disk shattered, so did the other 3 i had lying around, its well stuck and now both bearing cages have shattered. I need a 70mm disk made of steel about 1/2 inch and a bar made of about the same thickness, drill 3 holes into the bar one to go through to the back side of the bearing and two to make legs out of other bolts. then I am going to have to hope that the bolts have enough force to pull the bearing out.

What a pin in the bumb. I still havent thought about starting the other side but it has to at least have the rear hub bolt removed as i have to take the windy gun back in the morning.  Mine just wasnt hard enough.

Slide hammer had no effect. and just ripped the end off the slide PITA pain in the "Guess the last word"

I hope the other side works better, is starting to cost me some cash now.

£150 car
£40 MOT though I should replace the brakes as effort was a little low.
£90 Exhaust back box plus 2 centers
£55 for 2 rear disks 4 Shoes and 4 Pads, Plus the new pins and Fitting kit.
£60 for the new rear bearings
£40 for the new backing plates
£8 for the pins clips etc from vauxhall as there different to the older 1995 type
£12 for 8 new bolts 1.2mm thread with round heads and allan keys
£20 for a new spline bolt Pro set old one snapped removing the above bolts.
£11 Haynes Manual, and its useless for the job i have to do.
£? for the front disks and pads

Think thats £486 and I havent even taxed it yet, or started the front brakes or even had time to play at driving it.

 :'( :( :'(

It is both the holes and the plate the area that the Shoes mounted to was rottern through so I couldnt get the shoes to sit straight. i have just picked up the new ones for both sides so hopefully it will be much sharper stopping. I did have a problem with the pins as well but mannaged to get them sorted its the dual pot rear calipers and the pins supplied were 65mm the old ones were 75mm.

I have removed the nut and pulled the bit at the back off with a bearing puller. it came off after a bit of work with the windy gun and didnt damage the thread thank god.

but i snapped the end off my spline set so have to wait for the new set tommorow. I have not started on the other side but may take the camera out if its good weather tommorow. so i can create a how to thing for the forum.

its not the easiest job as the backing plate seems to bolt on under the outer hub and thats the bit i am stuck with, I cant see how it all fits together, thus cant take it apart. I am very good at working these things out I managed to get this far with out the dreaded manual. and I am not a qualified mechanic but can strip an engine and get it back together and working as well. LOL Sometimes. you dont want to look at the first head gasket I did. it only lasted 150 miles.

once its off I then have the fun of trying to put it all back I dont have a hydrolic press to make it all go together.

hoping the wood and a mallet will sort it out.

Quick tip if your checking for air leaks use a spray can of easy start. Spray around suspect area if tickover picks up you found your air leak. :y
LOL And if you find a bad HT lead you have a big Fire.

Well red, I am trying to contact the prvious owner as the listing he had where it sold for £155 stated the cam belt needed doing soon, however the service history says it was done about 30-40 k ago

and it needs a complete exhaust and brake overhaull. so time to get dirty,.

Thanks Hope its not too cold tommorow, I need to get under the bonnet and track the exhaust sounds and check all the cams etc. and service the thing. the previous owner only had it for about 4 weeks so I need to check everything.

I have 5 cars at the mo and need to sell some as i only have room for 3 LOL. never mind.

Newbie Welcome Area / Hi Just got a 2.5 V6 CDX from Ebay for £150
« on: 01 November 2008, 23:30:50 »
Hi. Glad to have this car for such a bargin price. It needs a MOT but has the failer sheet and the work needed is easy ish brakes brake pipes and a bit of exhaust.

However I would like to know if there are any problems with the V6 model. I had a V6 Vectra that had to go to the scrapyard. dont want this to go the same way.

The Displays are all working and the rest of the electrics etc seem to work perfectly. including the rear blind electric.   The Noise of the EGR valve seems to be there the same as the Vectra V6 hopefully its easier to get to in this engine compartment.

I need to make this car as quiet as a mouse.  so I am hoping that I can do it.

Any Hi from me, I am a trader BTW but have bought this car as a running car for me to keep my family safe and for towing and lux driving.
