Omega General Help / Replacing rubber around windshield

Got myself a "new" Omega in Germany a couple of weeks ago.

Really nice 2.6L and 99.9% rust free!!!

But there are a few things on it that bothers me.

One is the rubber stripe around the windshield, the one that go up the sides and around the roof line.
The current one has sort of dried out and cracked a bit. My old Omega is going to be scraped and picked for parts. The rubber stripe on that one is good and I was thinking that I could take that one and replace the dried one.

Is just to pull of the stripe and push it back on to the other car?

Is it a Facelift?

Check how the 12V socket for the backseat is? Do you have 12 volt there permanently too?

If so there is a relay under and behind the dash that probably is damaged, it usually is the opposite that the lights don't go on even though the door contacts behave normally.

It is a bit hard to reach that relay but it is a normal on/off relay.

Search for K154 and you'll find more info about it.

I have finally got hold of the original Kent Moore tools for replacing the rear wheel bearings.

Next time I can do it easier and more proper. I've been looking for these for a long time and a couple of days a guy at the Swedish Opel group on Facebook had them for sale.

I'm so exited that I almost will go out and try them even if it is not needed! Am I a nerd???

It's not the complete setup but it will do the job

I had exactly the same but on a 3.2. It began with intermittantly not cranking, but after a vouple of attempts would then crank / start, until it got to the point of being totally 'dead'. Replaced the crank sensor and it started every time afterwards.
But remember - you have to buy a genuine crank sensor from genuine dealer that you genuinely have to walk into and genuinely approach the parts counter and pay the genuine parts person for the genuine part.....
But there are other sources for genuine Bosch parts who made the genuine GM crank sensor for that era of Omega

As I said, I do have one spare BOSCH 0 261 210 131 from a 3.2L that I scraped a couple of years ago. This one fit the block serial number I have.

But I will buy one anyway to have as a spare, good to have when it is needed.

Yesterday my 2.6L Omega just died on me when turning in to a parking lot. Then totally dead, wouldn't start.
Called a neighbour that has a tow truck and she came and picked me up. When we have unloaded at home it started without any problem.

I assumed it was the fuel pump that had gone bad and replaced it this morning, I had a spare on the shelf.

Took it for a drive now (about 25 miles) and when almost at home it died again, in the same way. No fault engine lamp, just looks normal but wouldn't start. I waited about 15 minutes and it started up looking good.

Drove it home and checked for codes and nothing at all.

I'm confused, it is hard to know what could have gone wrong. We have kind of warm weather now but it is only about 20°C so wouldn't cause anyhting.

But apparently something shuts off and is OK after a while when it has cold down a bit.

Some sensor that is faulty?

Same thing with my 2.6L Omega, can't link until I start the engine.

But it do work if I turn it of to IGN, then it can connect.

Ign on should be enough.

Are you getting power on the ODBII port with ign off?  Should have perm 12v supply to it.

Yes it gets power when everything is off, but the reader needs ignition on to connect and link to the car.

Everything looks OK with IGN on until I want to read codes or erase codes then it says it can't link to vehicle.

Same problem had the guy at the inspection.

Just before the inspection I got connected with engine running to see if there was any codes that could cause a notification at the inspection. And it works as expected then.

I'll check on my other 2.6 Omega and see how it behaves.

On my 3.2L Omega 2002

I have a problem with my ODBII port, I can't read any codes with only IGN on, it read with engine running.

When I was at the inspection the other day they mentioned this but didn't give me any remarks on it.
So by that I conclude that the problem is in the car


Why is that, it has been working properly earlier, could it be something broken in the connector?

the correct Gates one is still readily available from Autodoc online.

But are they older than the ones on the car. I would imagine everything now is (very) old stock.

No idea.  The Autodoc stock comes in from Poland/Germany and is for the Opel as well as Vauxhall  Omega, plus goodness what else. As long as they last the 4 years on the engine that is all I care about.

Surely  they didn't stop making them on the same day they stopped making the cars

According to the list for the cambelt kits they were also used in SAAB 9-5 until December 2009.

On my 2002 3.2L Sport my cats are rattling and I have bought a new set.

I know it can be problematic to unscrew the nuts on manifolds and I wonder if there is a good method to do this without breaking the bolts holding the cats to the manifold.

Should I heat the nuts? Or can it be done without heating and still not breaking the bolts.

Appreciate any advice.

If you are in Sweden you can find those O-rings at a SAAB-dealer/shop. They have a different partnumber but it is the same O-rings.

There are also two different thermostats, the one to the left is for later years, the other one is difficult to get down between the cylinder heads.
