P0302 and P0303. I am sure these are generic codes for cylinder 2 and 3 misfire. I had my mechanic look at it yesterday and he advises that the codes are too generic and perhaps I should wait until I get a more specific code.
In the meantime a mate of mine says he has a spare MAF sensor and advises trying that. Do you think it is worth a go?
Just thinking if I have replaced the plugs and the coil pack, can I eliminate these as the cause of the misfires under load? Car also sounds quite rough when idling and there is frequent hesitation, worse when engine is hot.
Could this be blocked or faulty injectors on cylinders 2 and 3? Is it worth trying one of those fuel additives to clean the injectors?
No idea how long old plugs have been in I'm afraid but they are brand new now and the problem still happens under load at high revs. E.G. accelerating up a hill. Mileage is 95,000
My mate is away with the code read so I can't get the codes just I'm afraid, will get them at the weekend.
I just fitted another coil pack and the symptoms are the same. When fitting a noticed a little oil on the spark plug in cylinder 2, all the others are clean
I have an Omega 2.2 CD that recently broke down on the M6. When the AA came out they read the codes from the engine management computer and it was cylinder 2 and 3 misfire.
When he took the spark plugs out of cylinder 2 and 3 their electrodes had completly gone. No inner or outer. What is wierd is that they both went at the same time. Up until the car broke down I had done 250 miles with no problem.
Anyway he replaced the plugs and away I went but every now and again I still get misfires on cylinders 2 and 3.
I am thinking of changing the coil pack and was wondering if you would agree that this is a good starting point?
Thanks tapper, there is a voltage and also I notice that the sheathing is worn around the feed wire so copper is exposed. Its getting beyond my skills now so I've booked an auto electrician to have a look at it on Monday.
I have an Omega 2.5 CDX on a W plate. Recently the D2S right halogen headlight went (or at least I thought it did). So I bought a new bulb and put it in and it still didn't work so I checked the fuse and it was blown.
Next I changed the fuse and put the old bulb back in and it blew the fuse. OK so it seems the old bulb is faulty and its blowing the fuse. So I put in a new bulb and a new fuse but this time the light comes on for a split second then goes off, the fuse does not blow. I can turn it on any number of times and the max the bulb will stay on is about 2 seconds. I even tried yet another new bulb and get the same symptoms.
They say thay have replaced the gaskets for a second thime and this time with genuine vauxhall parts but there is still oil in the plug wells.
They must no be cleaning the breathers.
I'll print off the maintenance guide and give it to them. I tink the problem is not being vauxhall experts they are probabaly just doing the bear minimum.
Failing this is there anyway to find a mechanic in my area who has done the breather cleaning before. I suppose even an amateur enthusiast would be better than what I am currently getting.
Just to give you an update, the garage confirms that the fornt left plug is not firing.
They have ordered a set of new plug leads that will be fitted on Monday. Not sure why they had to ordered a full set if only one plug isn't firing. Is it not possible just to order one lead?
From reading the feedback, and thanks very much to everyone who responded, I think it is the lead it must have been cooking in hot oil for weeks which cant be good.
Anyway they say that if that does not work it is probably the coil pack, but again I am confused because I thought my car didn't have a coil pack I thought coil packs were introduced in later models. Mines is a W reg 2.5 V6 Does anybody know if it has a coil pack?
Also as prevention of future rocker cover gasket failure a lot of you say that the breathers need to be kept clean. Do you know if there are any guides on how to clean the breathers I can look at?
