Just going to jump in with a wild suggestion here as there are many possible causes! Check all the suspension bushes, front and rear, as that is a likely culprit! Does it pull to the side under braking?

TBH I'm thinking it could be front end noise, and wishbones are fubar

Hi folks thanks for taking the time to read this.... I've just bought my first omega and it's great, except for a brake clonk on breaking... IT's a 2.5 td cdx 1998..... I think it's coming from the rear but cant be sure. brakes work fine as does the abs, but unles you break very gently then thay clonk. also i believe there's a very slight delay between braking and the clonk.... thanks
