Omega General Help / Re: Engine sump and Bearing help?
« on: 09 February 2009, 10:18:10 »
Thanks all, i was idly wondering if the o rings and the washer in the sump could have been from a collapsed lifter causing the knocking i thought was a big end?

I'd still like to check the big ends though....

hang on, so do i need to drop the subframe or not?

my brain hurts....

I can always knock up a support frame for the engine if need be, or i could just hold it up on the engine crane.....

Omega General Help / Engine sump and Bearing help?
« on: 08 February 2009, 20:40:53 »
Ok, dropped the sub sump on the 2.5 tourer today found some O rings and a large washer in the oil pickup!!! :o anyone any idea where these could come from? the headgaskets and the oil cooler have been done before my ownership so i guess 'anywhere' could be athe answer..

I suspect a big end has gone but need to get the ally sump casing off to have a look, can this be done with the engine is situ?

if so is there anything i need to know?

VX have quoted me £24=Vat for a single big end bearing, can anyone reccomend a better (cheaper) source?

thanks in advance chaps!

Omega General Help / Re: Brake problems and a bad rattle!
« on: 21 January 2009, 09:46:29 »
There's no play in any bearings they are toight, yes toight like a toiger...

also the symptoms are so bad I doubt it could be caused by something like that..

the wishbone bushes look ok the ball joints seem toight aswell..

I'll have the calipers apart at some point they look in fairly good order but a strip and clean cant hurt!

If the rattly engine is the big ends, where's the best place to get new bearings?

thanks all ed

Omega General Help / Brake problems and a bad rattle!
« on: 20 January 2009, 20:02:06 »
I have a 2.5 V6 tourer in manual flavor...

It has recently developed a hard pull to the right under braking, so bad that unchecked it would change lanes on the motorway, I had a good look around the suspension and everything seems in reasonable order the brakes seem to bite evenly and progressively (in the workshop with the front end off the ground) and if you really floor the brake (hard enough to engage the abs) it stops in a straight(ish) line..

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Also the engine has what I thought was a dodgy tappet/lifter but what now sounds to me like a big end rattle? is there anything else that could cause a constant tapping that is common to these cars..?

As another poiunt the handbrake is very poor I have found via searching on this forum how to best adjust it but i just mention it in case there is some problem that could contribute to the braking problem..

thanks all! :)

yes! my username was the average mpg of all my cars at the time i came up with it I was running three big V8 cars so it's understandable really..

I'm hoping the trip computer is wrong, my faith in it in not 100% as this morning as the thick frost lay on the ground to my deepest pleasure it announced that whilst i was shivering inside trying to demist the windscreen that outside my misty windows it was a balmy 69 degrees! in hindsight i should have opened the window to let some heat in  ;D

Thanks for the welcome, I'm quite taken with the Omega though I am less than impressed with it's mpg, I'm averaging 14.6 at the moment, which is on a par with my 4.6 range rover, I'm hoping this can be improved upon if i ease off my right foot slightly..

I'm especially impressed with the passenger seat that becomes a table, what a good idea, i wish my better halfs Scorpio had this feature as we have a 7 week old little girl and a fold down table would be very usefull for 'on the road' nappy changing etc!

OK my names Ed live in berkshire, self emplyed mechanic doing mainly classic car restoration got a small workshop/unit in Bradfield berkshire.. (www.vikingengineering)

I have many cars from a 72 Mustang to a 4.6 Range Rover and have recently acquired a R reg 2.5 V6 manual Tourer in Black with black interior..

The car has a number of problems (it was stupidly cheap)from a sharp pull to the right on braking to a rattly engine (prob big ends) and a weak handbrake, that i will be picking you brains about later but it seems solid and mostly worthwhile (and has plenty of T&T) so it's gonna be my daily for a while...

So thats me, hi all! :D
