Omega Electrical and Audio Help / CCRT700 weird message
« on: 13 March 2011, 23:55:16 »
I've owned my current Omega for just a month and I've been hearing a message off my radio a few times now. The first time I thought I had intercepted a police HQ message as it was breaking up quite badly but it was telling to make contact with someone. The second time was also a garbled message. On the third time the radio turned itself on, EXT. IN was displayed in the MID and I managed to hear it say that something was out of date and I needed to call a number. Any ideas anyone?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Ignition barrel
« on: 01 February 2009, 00:06:33 »
Without boring you to death about my cars history, a 2.5 V6 CDX auto, it's been stood for about 12 months and i'd now like to use it again. My problem is the ignition barrel has seized and although i can insert the key i can't turn it and the steering lock has also engaged. What can i do to solve my problem? I've searched back about 20 pages of this sub heading and couldn't see any relevent post so i apologise now for any duplicate post ;)

Omega General Help / Poor running V6
« on: 11 August 2011, 23:52:51 »
My Omega has started to play up during my hols so I've a few of questions.
1 - While waiting for a train at a level crossing I slipped the car into Park with the engine running, when I engaged Drive the car was slow to pull away like it was stuck in Snow mode and Automatic Gearbox came up in the display. I pulled over and turned the ignition off and restarted the car and it was ok but a little hesitant like it was hunting for the next gear/misfiring when it wanted to change gear. Keeping it in Sport mode made it run ok which leads me to the next question.
2 - It's now developed a misfire on tickover, the odd cylinder or two, and under load although partial throttle it seems ok.
3 - My climate control is either hot or cold, anything inbetween is cold.
Any ideas, oh yeah I found a split in a pipe that the previous owner had taped up with insulation tape but the split has fubared the pipe now and air is leaking out of it on cold start-up (area marked on pic). Cheers Nick.

how does one go about checking if the cambelt has slipped?
You need to turn the engine over by hand and line the timing marks up on the cam pulleys to see if any are out of alignment. The belt only needs to slip a tooth for poor running.

is it easy to remove
If you're able to swing a hammer then yes.
1 - Get a piece of dowelling that is a snug fit inside the spigot bearing so it can slide up it.
2 - Pack the spigot bearing with grease.
3 - Locate the dowelling in the centre of the spigot bearing and hit it with a hammer.
The force of the grease compressing and being forced backwards, it can't get past the dowelling, will dislodge the bearing ;)

Omega General Help / Re: Wheel sizes - fitting replacements

the Omega does not have a "front wheel drive" offset.
Any wheel that has a high positive offset is known as a "Front Wheel Drive" offset which just happens to be the range that covers the Omegas.

And does it make a difference if the wheels come off a front wheel drive vehicle like a Vectra?
I posted the Omegas wheel specs the other day maybe the mods could make it a sticky:
5 x 110mm P.C.D
65.1mm bore
35 - 45 Offset (E.T)
The Omega has a "front wheel drive" offset anyway :y

Omega General Help / Re: Heated Windscreen and exterior mirrors

Hi guys
The main point of my question is...can heated windscreens and heated exterior mirrors be installed in am old vauxhall omega?
There is absolutely no reason why a heated windscreen cannot be retro fitted to a car that never came with one as they work in the same way as a rear screen demister and, i can get one for my Chevette ffs. However, someone has to make one for it in the first place and i can't find anyone that does. Also, i'm not sure if Ford still hold the patent on the way they make them so i don't know how it would work.

Omegas have no heated windscreen option (thank god!)
My god man they are one of the finest things ever invented.
