Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Can anyone help?
« on: 12 March 2010, 08:06:15 »
Thanks to everyone for their kind advice. I have discovered that the fault seems to be a transmission selector electrical connection problem. If I start my 2002 Omega MV6 3.2 from cold and select reverse, it engages reverse mechanically but it does not always engage reverse electrically, meaning that the selector reverse light does not illuminate and causes the warning lights plus limp home mode when I select drive. Restarting the car always cures that condition, and joggling the selector in reverse - before selecting drive can usually bring the reverse transmission selector illumination on and prevent the fault. Please can anyone help with suggestions to correct the selector problem?

Thanks for the quick replies.
Re codes in the TCM - I am not sure how to view them.

I have been viewing fault codes by holding the brake & accelerator pedal down before switching on the ignition & counting the flashes.

Re unplugging sensors - when I changed the thermostat , I did not knowingly unplug any sensors, I stuck to the instructions in a thermostat replacement guide in a maintenance on this web site, but I will look for crushed wires.

Thanks again for your help.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Can anyone help?
« on: 03 March 2010, 07:01:18 »
I recently changed the thermostat on my petrol engined 2002 omega MV6 3.2 litres which has covered 92K, without problems and the running temperature is correct. I have a new fault which only appears occasionally, when the car starts from completely cold as a combination of 2 warning lights traction control and engine management. If I start driving, the car operates in limp home mode, but if I switch the ignition off and restart, all symptoms disappear and the car including traction control, operates correctly throughout my journey. I have a code 1700 signifying a need for vehicle service from the transmission control module, which was not there before I changed the thermostat. I changed the transmission fluid and cleaned its filter 3 months ago, and the transmission operates correctly. I suspect that damp is affecting an electrical connection but I am not sure. Does anyone have some suggestions to solve this? all help will be gratefully received.

It may help to know that the car is returning 28+ MPG on regular trips between North Cheshire and Birmingham, and that its servicing is fully up to date with good running performance.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Unusual ABS problem
« on: 16 September 2009, 18:36:21 »
Can anyone help me with my 2002 Omega 3.2 litre MV6?
Speedo has stopped and power steering is no longer speed sensitive, but ABS and traction control work and there are no warning lights. Vauxhall say the speed sensor is providing its normal output and their tech 2 diagnostic unit can communicate with the ABS ecu and says there is a No:- 21 trouble code - No vehicle speed signal - servotronic. They also say the speed output cable from ABS ecu to engine fails a continuity test. Their solution is to install a new wiring loom for the whole car at £600 plus 20 hours labour to install it, any alternative cheaper suggestions will be gratefully received.

Omega General Help / Re: Auto Gearbox Selector Switch fault
« on: 13 April 2010, 07:27:45 »
My 2002 MV6 3.2 Omega Auto needs cleaning inside the auto gearbox selector switch but does not have enough space to access the 10mm selector switch fixing screws and to access the wiring connector (6" away). I also have 2 heat shields covering the wiring and selector switch with fixing screws that are unreachable. Can anyone suggest suggest a solution apart from dropping the gearbox as my Haynes manual suggests?

Alternatively is there anyone within sensible travelling distance of Manchester Airport who has experience of doing this job and who would be prepared to tackle fixing my selector switch?

Omega General Help / Re: Catalytic Converters for Omega 3.2 MV6
« on: 16 September 2010, 17:31:23 »
Thanks everyone for the replies. I have tried resetting the fault codes by disconnecting the battery, but they return after a period and that period is getting shorter - currently down to 24 hours. Could anyone suggest who might help me to get the pre cat sensors moved? I live in Wilmslow, near to Manchester Airport.

Omega General Help / Catalytic Converters for Omega 3.2 MV6
« on: 16 September 2010, 09:52:31 »
Does anyone know where I can buy replacement Catalytic converters at a discount price, because the pre-cats on my Omega 3.2 MVX 02 Reg saloon, are producing fault codes P0420/P0430.

Thanks
