Omega General Help / Re: Engine won't crank
« on: 09 February 2009, 13:18:37 »
Thanks for the tips everyone..  :y

Had the aux drive belt off yesterday and engine wouldn't crank at all, Check altenator, aircon, tensioner, PS pump all spun freely with the belt off.

Tried giving the car a good shove and dropping the clutch in 1st, 2nd  & reverse gear. Engine does not seem to want to turn forward or backwards.  >:(

Think I have narrowed it down not to either
 1. something stuck in the flywheel/ring gear
 2. cambelt jumped and valves touching pistons.

If the cambelt had jumped would I be able to rotate the engine backwards at all ?

right just been out to have another short at the car.

Crank will not move more than a couple of mm. forwards or backwards.

Managed to get the top of the cambelt cover pulled back enough to see the belt, it looks intact and still has tension on it. Can't see any damage to the belt (stripped teeth, scoring at the edge). Couldn't work out how to get the rest of the cover off to get a look at the bottom of the belt and see the tensioners

Take your point, the belts may not have been done, didn't hear anything snap though.

Cant' turn the crank to mobe at the moment. I will try taking the aux belt off an seeing if it will turn

Cambelts were done just before he bought it a year ago, we don't know if the idlers and tensioners were done ot the time. Car has about 130K on it.

The engine is not turning at all

Oil is about halfway between max an min of the dip stick

Omega General Help / Engine won't crank

Hi all

I was just about to buy my mates 2.5 V6 Omega, when the egnine let out an almighty screech and ground to a halt. Car is an R-plate and has just had ne clutch and cambelts were done a year ago.

The engine will not turn over/crank properly, I can hear the starter enage, but the engine does not want to turn. Have tried another battery and jump-starting it off my Discovery with no luck.

Anyone got any suggestions, before we put it in gear and give it a tow to try and releae the engine?

Thanks

Andy
