This is a great idea if it could be done easily.

I hate having to hold the button for so long to shut the windows.

Just hold the panel up to the light and see which ones are missing, then come back and tell us. Not all are needed, but some may have been removed for a reason.

My traction control, ECU and airbag lights had been removed on mine when I got it!

Cheers,
Wouldn't have noticed about the aerial due to having broken it....on the list for replacement  :-[
Done yours yet?

Those CD changers are a right PIA, mine was driving me mad!
at the end, it would intermittantly eject the mag or not, lots of button jabbing needed.
When playing, loads of skipping, bit of interference, would only really play about the 1st few songs on a CD.

Very happy to be rid of it.

Does sounds like you have had very bad luck with yours :(

Yeah, my car's not giving me the best impression of Omega ownership to be honest. Been thinking about getting rid but that won't be a bit yet.

It's the gearbox and LPG problems that are really doing my head in. Everything else is niggly.

I got the replacement aerial cable delivered today from a guy on ebay, plus a few other odds and sods. The radio reception was brilliant until I damaged the cable. Suppose it's my own fault really.

My CD changer has similar symptoms to yours then. Sometimes it will stop playing about halfway through a CD and take ages to start playing when I turn the stereo on. The Pioneer will be going back in when I get the loom sorted for it.

Been using this a while now, and generally very happy
just fixed the last problem - since installing the adaptor, I lost on / off with ignition, and memory.
Assumed I had unplugged the switched live connector during install, took it out, was all fine, thought 'what if' and swapped the live / switched back to default in case the adaptor was that clever.....and it was, so all sorted, just need to fix my aerial connector I accidently pulled off now :(

So impressions.

CD / MP3 - sounds excellent, very happy
Tuner - sounded fine the brief time I used it, not really a radio person
Bluetooth - Excellent, my motorola (due for replacement next month) doesnt autoconnect, so 2 buttons to establish connection.  Nokia's however work fine.

Adaptor - Sorry to say a little poor.  The controls all work perfectly, but for some designers idea that the stereo must beep quietly whenever one is pressed, Why!!!
The display driver is what really lets it down, I hoped for track names to be relayed, but no, just get the timer for current song, and track number, a bit pointless really.
The radio does give station name though
Also expected the phone interface to show number calling, or at least 'phone', but nothing, just sits where the cd is paused.

So, would I buy it again, maybe, depends what else I could find
Love the stereo, but the interface lets it down, would prefer expanded display items and rid of that beep.  Doesnt do a lot for what it cost.
I would probaly buy the stereo again, but a cheaper autoleads adaptor and lose the display
(if you disconnect the blue wire (system remote) then you still get the date on the MID.)

At the End of the day, the £230 got me a good stereo, bluetooth hands free kit and steering contol  & display adaptor, I couldnt match that from other manufactures.

If you disconnect the system remote cable then you'll also lose the aerial amplifier mate. I cut the wire at the back of the MID instead.

Saying that though, my standard stereo is back in at the minute as my the earth cable is coming out of the loom for my Pioneer and keeps shorting out! Shame my standard CD changer doesn't work properly.

Cheers for the heads up,
Strangely my MID shows the date without tinkering.

I might have just had a bad one, but you never know. I'd probably buy an Alpine next if I had to replace it.

The wire I had to cut on the MID is the same one used for the electric aerial (or the aerial amplifier in the case of an Omega). So if that isn't connected then I guess you won't get that problem.

Make sure you keep the receipt for your Pioneer mate. Mine went back for repair under warranty 5 times in the first year of owning it! Each time with a different fault! I've had it nearly 3 years now though, and it's been ok since, although the face now refuses to stay up unless you play about with it.

The sound quality is excellent, but the build quality isn't. I was quite surprised to be honest.

I didn't bother keeping the MID information when I fitted my Pioneer into my Omega. I just cut a wire on the back of it so the MID still shows the date when the stereo is on.

Excellent.

Another part to add to my list of things that need for my Omega....

To the best of my knowledge (need to check wiring diagrams) it is the same in the Omega.

I hope so as I have the same problem myself and need to sort it!

I hope so too. I don't fancy replacing the whole cable to the back of the car  :(

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Aerial cable
« on: 28 January 2007, 22:04:55 »
I've noticed that my aerial cable is damaged in my Omega. I think it's from taking my stereo in/out etc, which has caused the co-ax to snap in the middle a few inches from the connector. Bending it in a funny angle makes it briefly work.

How easy is the cable to change? I remember in my Cavalier that the cable had a join in the passenger footwell, is it similar on an Omega?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: bypass standard amp - my way

Thanks for that info about the wiring on the amp mate. I need that for when I put a proper amp in the boot of my Elite, saves having to run new wires to the door speakers  :y

Just one question though - Couldn't you have just linked the inputs into the amp from the stereo straight to the speaker wiring? Would've saved running new speaker wire from your headunit.

I see no reason why it should be a problem as long as you do the setup properly. :)

I'll look for that wiring diagram over the weekend.

Any luck finding that wiring diagram mate?

I was just thinking about the excess vibrations in the boot causing problems with the high pressure tank. Maybe I'm just worrying too much  ::)

Ok, good news first.... yes you can do it that way. :)

I am a little suprised it is working ok though. I had the same setup but the output from my old Pioneer headunit (DEH-P7700MP) was too high for the inputs on the Philips amp and made it trip out!

Anyway. I will see if I can find out the wiring information for the Philips setup.
If not, I have no doubt one of the others will be able to provide the information. :)

I wasn't sure if it was going to work to be honest, but it works fine. Even the little bass speakers work OK. It's still no substitute for a real amp and sub though.

I'd appreciate a wiring diagram, as it'll help me no end. Still undecided on whether to keep the car at the moment, but if I do then I'll be doing this soon.

Do you reckon it's safe to put amps and sub in the boot with LPG gas tank?  :-?

I've got a 97 Omega Elite and I've recently changed the head unit to a Pioneer. All good so far.

I don't have the Bose system, but I do have the Philips system with the amp next to the spare wheel and the small bass speakers under the parcel shelf.

The current bass and volume is OK, but I want to be able to really turn it up sometimes, which at the moment just makes it distort. I've already got a 12" sub and a Vibe VP4 monoblock that I salvaged from my old car before I sold it, I just haven't fitted it yet. I'm also looking at getting a half-decent 4-channel amp for the door speakers.

When I amped all the door speakers in my old Cav, it was a right pain as I had to run speakers wires from the boot to the front of the car and it took ages. My question is, will it be possible to just connect the 4-channel amp up to the existing loom for the Philips amp? Anyone have a wiring diagram for it so I know which wires to use?

I also had the problem with the MID showing a blank line when I fitted my Pioneer headunit.

Remove the dash clocks, and look at the large wiring plug for the MID (if there's two). Cut the red wire with the white stripe. This will make the date display when the headunit is on.
