they both seem ok, there is no play and they look fine.
Thanks to all of you for your time.
I will need to take off the crankshaft sensor to get a replacement, as I said I have aircon so how difficult is it to get at ? -any special tricks?

2
It seems ok as far as I can tell, I would add a pic but I can't quite work out how

3
checked the timng belt - all is well no damage and seems tight

4
hanks, mine has aircon, any guidance welcome

Ok been and done the clip test and got 0335 as the result so I assume that the cranckshaft sensor is knackered. I have managed to drive home and the horrid grating/rattling noise has reduced but still there.
Is it practical to try and change it myself? and can anyone suggest a good place to get one other than a Vauxhall dealer.

6
thanks a lot - wish me luck tomorrow!

what I meant was where on the actual engine will the engine type details be so that I can tell what ECU type I have not the actual fault codes, I think it is a Ecotec engine but can't remember and It's about a mile to walk to my car so I want to be sure

8
Can someone tell me where on the engine I am likely to find the engine code  for the paper clip test ? [edit][/edit]

9
thanks for the advice you lovely chaps!
I will go back and have  look tomorrow where I have abandoned the poor thing, incidently will the paper clip test work on a 'V' reg? p brill if it will.
Again thanks for the help.

Cheers for that info, it makes me feel a bit better. If the crank sensor is buggered, how easy would it be for me to replace it myself? - (trying to save some money)

11
thanks for the quick reply but it's the horrid metalic rattling that worries me - do you think  the sensor could have fallen apart?

Can anyone offer help?
My engine is making horrible noises!
for a while my car has started ok and run ok for 15 - 20 mins and then has lost power and the EMU light comes on. The car still drives but pulls away very slowly from stationery. If after a while I stop the engine and re start, the light goes out and stays off and the car drives ok for as long as you like with no prob.
I have had a diagnostic done with a Snapon tester and it says there is a fault with the crank circuit.
I have just tried to start the car while it was a bit warm and it is really rough starting and making horrible rattling noises. Any idea what the noise might be, I was arranging to get the sensor replaced but the man I use is away at the moment so any advice would be welcome.

Cheers
