Omega General Help / Re: Wheel alignment

I've been told by local tyre dealer that I should be taking the Omega to Vx to have the alignment checked, as he won't touch them any more. Anyone had it done by Vx or indeed any other company?
I had uneven tyre wear so had a full computer laser alignment done at the local independant tyre shop. They don't like Omegas because the links seize solid as had mine. They had to heat them up with the gas and eventually they moved. They carry a stock of new trackrod ends for Omegas because 9 out of 10 sheer of apparently. It turned out to be way out on the front and one rear was toeing in alot so it was crabbing.
When finished you get a colour print out showing the car chassis and the new corrected readings showing toe, camber thrust angle, and caster angles. You then have proof of a straight chassis if selling the vehicle on.
I thought for £50.22 it was money well spent. It turns out the local Vauxhall main dealer and others use this place because its cheaper than having there own. So if you took it to Vauxhall they would just add more to the price.

Omega General Help / Re: DIS Diagnosis Result!!!!!!!!
« on: 21 May 2007, 21:01:32 »
I've just fitted the new DIS pack. Took about an hour. Again, not as bad a job as I expected.
You guys were right again. Its running fine now. :y Excellent result.
The only boob I made was forgetting to reconnect the wiper motor multiplug, so I had to take the scuttle off again, I could live with that because it was already running by then.
Thanks guys.

Vauxhall have quoted me £130 for a new one. Markie(on the forum) has a 2nd hand one but I need it asap. I may have to bite the bullet and pay through the nose.
It was'nt as bad to get out as I was expecting, after some morale boosting from you guys.
I slipped the HBV of its mount and squeezed it past there and out of the side. Not too much blood. :y

Omega General Help / DIS Diagnosis
« on: 18 May 2007, 18:17:20 »
I've just removed my DIS pack to try to remedy my missfire problem.
The opposite end to the multiplug is cracked underneath and is exposing corroded coil.
Would this cause severe missfire? It was down to 3 or 4 cylinders. :'(

No idea, 'cause I don't actually have one  8-)

...but from following Mark DTM threads I understand this is somehow best accessed from under the car?

Omega General Help / DIS pack removal questions
« on: 16 May 2007, 19:29:23 »
I,ve decided to go down the DIS pack route to try and solve my misfireing problem.
I've removed the wipers, scuttle, and moved the wiring harness to expose the plug leads ect. How exactly do I get to the flippin thing.I can't see it or even get my hands on it yet. Do you come from underneath. I tried following the maintenance guide up to removing the plug leads from the DIS. Help :-[

Can you remember what they charged you for parts Jack. I hav'nt found out what a DIS pack costs yet.

The mis fire was not too bad it was just the 1 cylinder down ( nearest to radiator on drivers side) i drove around with it for few weeks but was painfully rough and severe lack of power. I never had any EML light at all which i thought strange.
Good luck mate.

How bad was the missfire Jack ? mine will hardly run now down to 3 cylinders it seems.Did you get an EML light ?I have just started the process of removing the DIS pack.  :-/

Hi, Just had big problems with mine, misfiring, got it checked out and No1 plug was getting no spark so was diagnosed as the coil pack failure but even after this was replaced it was still not running smooth, so garage said that it is the camshaft sensor , so had this done this week and evertything is great now, luckily my Cat Converter is not damaged ( cost £450  all in for parts/labour)

Yes. I did the HBV valve 6 months ago. Has the antifreeze buggered it up?

There was certainly no spark from the plug nearest the front of the car on the left bank of the engine

That cylinder should be paired with the centre cylinder on the right bank I think.

Either way, if there's no spark at all I'd still suspect the DIS pack. Might be worth changing the plug leads too, just in case.

You could try removing the DIS pack and measuring the resistance of each winding to see if they are intact and of similar resistance if you don't want to shell out for a new one without further confirmation.

Not had a HBV or cam cover seal failure recently?

Kevin

There was certainly no spark from the plug nearest the front of the car on the left bank of the engine( when standing at front). To double check I took the plug out and plugged the lead back on and started the engine. No spark. I had more problems checking the other bank due to access. I just tried it again (cold engine) and it only just runs now. Only fireing on 3 or 4 cylinders I recon. Its been a rapid deterioation. From running fine to hardly running at all within 10 minuites of running. Would the dis pack do this ?.Also I've had no misfireing before to cause unburnt fuel to build up.I drove a 200 mile trip on saturday virtual non stop with no problems at all.

Which cylinder number is not firing on each bank?  If there was no difference when you removed the leads, I would suspect the DIS pack - seems as though one of the coils which provides a spark for 2 cylinders has failed.

This would also support the earlier post about the cats breaking down due to unburned fuel.

These symptoms would be nothing to do with the o2 sensors.

Thanks Kevin. I may have a go at that tommorrow. Not looking foward to it. I have a funny feeling you are right though. One of the cylinders on each bank is'nt fireing at all though. I tested all 6 cylinders by removing one plug lead at a time. Could that point to the o2 sensor ?

I'm not convinced the oxygen sensor should be your first port of call. If that were reading bad, it would run reasonably well but light the EML.

Oxyneg sensors are not active until the engine is warm anyway.

I think a check of the exhaust system for blockages should be at the top if the list.
