Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: CDR2006 cutting out

OK - for all those watching and wondering about this problem - its all fixed.

Thanks eventually to Dave - I found one of the speaker leads had disconnected inside one of the back doors (who ever sits there?), and was rattling around, sometimes grounding on the door metalwork!  So the amp must have been shutting down under overload as Dave suggested.

So if anyone has a similar problem - check the speakers and their wiring first!!

Thanks again Dave, well done.

Sorry for the delay in responding - I have tried wiggling the volume control but it makes no difference.  No crackling or any cutting out.  In fact it feels OK.

If it is the switch rather than the pot then perhaps this won't necessarily caus ethe problem by wiggling it.  Are the possible dry joints easy to access?  I can easily re-solder them if they are just to make sure.

I have remove dthe unit and checked the connections into the cage and the radio unit and they all look OK. Put it back together and the fault remains - again sometimes it cuts in at full volume, somethimes at the original level.

I have not yet checked the wiring to the back of the cage (I assume I take the glove box out to access these, or am I better taking the cage out instead?).

To disconnect the speakers at the speaker end - how do the door trims come off?  Is it easier to work at the head end instead?

Thanks to all for the input.
First a correction - it is a CCR2006 (not CDR as I put).

There is no amp in the cubby hole or in front of the spare wheel, so unless there is something mounted under the car or inside the dashboard there probably isn't a Bose amp unit anywhere, so why would it say 'Bose' when switching on?

It cuts out whatever volume it is playinjg at, and doesn't matter if it starts low or not.  It may be linked to bumps on the road, but has also cut out when parked.

Usually when it cuts back in it does so at the same volume but has on occasions come back on with full volume (which is scary if driving!).

I should have a chance to pull it out tomorrow (any suggestions how as it is very tight - I tried at the weekend with the usual pullers and it wouldn't budge) and look for external bad connections/breaks in the wiring.  My logic says it won't be teh power lead as the display remains when it cuts out, so it must be transmitting a signal, which needs power - correct?

That leaves the aerial socket, as the speaker wires would not affect every speaker at once.

Would it be possible for a 'mute' signal to be cutting in (say for the phone, which isn't fitted)?  Otherwise I guess it is the unit itself that is sick.

Its the audio that cuts out. The main display still shows the station tuned into.  It cuts out on tape, cd and radio.

I have a CDR2006 in my Omega and there is an intermittent fault - it cuts out every few minutes, and then cuts back in again.  I have tried a different head unit but with teh same problem so think it must be somewhere else.

I think I read somewhere on the forum that there is a separate amplifier in the circuit - did I imagine this?
If there is then where is it located as it seems to be a common link that may be where the fault is....

Hi Rob, and sorry but I missed your PM (too good a New Year!). Have sent a PM reply now.

Thanks for the help guys,
Controller changed - just unplug and plug in the new one.  Some noise when alarm plug pulled out but stopped when new one plugged in.  And it works to the key fob supplied with the controller.

Note that the 'new' fob is from a saloon with the three buttons, but works OK with the estate.  Just that the boot open button does nothing.

Next job when the weather warms up is to get the old key fob reprogrammed and a blank key cut to give me the elusive spare key at last!

Thanks again.

Colin.

Hi,
Looks like I need a new controller for the central locking - knowing this also has the alarm system in it if I change it will I hit any problems with keys, etc?  Is it just a simple unplug/plug-in job or is there more to it?

Thanks Rusty,

Is it worth getting one of the cheap tech2's off ebay? Do they really work?  I assume they link into my laptop and run the diagnostic software there?

No-one brave enough to pick up and answer this problem?  Here's hoping...

The next step in the trail to the problem - I checked the fuses and found fuse number 20 was u/s.  I have replaced this but with no change to the locking system.

Thing is - apart from the central locking I couldn't identify anything not working, so what does this fuse supply?  The Omega user manual says - Central locking system, courtesy lamp, door lights, and heated seats - but all of these have been and are still working - even with the broken fuse in place.  In fact I have removed fuse 20 completely and all the other items still work - only the c/l doesn't!

Makes me think there may be a wiring fault with broken wire(s) stopping the c/l working and back feeding the other items.

Any comments/suggestions if this is the case, and where to look?

Colin.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Central locking not working
« on: 16 December 2009, 18:58:53 »
Help - my central locking does not work.  I can open the drivers door with the key and passenger door by pulling up the door lock button, but both rear doors are locked and their buttons will not move.

I have changed the motors in both front doors but no change.

The alarm still sets/unsets with the key, and when I lock the drivers door with the key the alarm is set.

The tailgate will also open with the key but the petrol flap is locked and I have to trip this manually.

Anyone suggest what to try?  Is it the central locking control unit? If so where is this located, and how can I tell if it is faulty?  Is there anything else in the system to look at (relays, connectors, etc)?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Central locking fault..etc.

Hi again guys - still help needed with my central locking...

Previous advice suggested the motors needed changing which I have now done (both passenger and drivers front door motors) but this has not solved the problem.  In fact it has made no difference at all.

The problem remains that the central locking does not work at all - either by the key or by moving the internal lock.  And on any of the doors or the fuel cap.

I press the key to open and the alarm is cancelled, press to lock and the alarm sets, but that is all.  When I lock the car using the door lock and key the alarm sets.  So this part seems to be working OK.

So it looks to me like there is a common point which has failed, so is there a circuit board that operates the central locking or a relay that makes it all work?  If so where are they and what am I looking for?

Next step if this fails is to go to the main dealer and I really don't want to do this!!

Hi Guys,

Help please with getting the right replacement part before I strip the door down.

Tunnie's link quotes part number 90493702.

I have found two different versions - one claims to have this number and be from a Corsa with a 5 pin round plug.  Another claims to be part no. GM904493702 with a 3 pin plug.

Which will fit?

Thanks Guys, I'll strip it down and see what I find.
