General Car Chat / Re: Insurance for Omega
« on: 15 November 2011, 14:31:17 »
Also check the policy, especially if travelling abroad. It appears that whilst providing European cover Direct Line only cover you fully comp for the first 3 days abroad and then it is third party. They don't like to tell you this. There are other differences (they don't always just pick a number, they change some of the benefits for low quotes). Things to watch are legal cover, replacement car provision (they can take it away before you get your car back), excesses, etc. etc. I was with Zurich but they quoted me an astronomical price for my Audi (after only charging a very small increment when changed with six months remaining  ???) so I had a good look around but became aware of hidden differences when asking lots of questions. Tip, be careful. It's now insured with Audi (which is of limited use to this forum) but have also changed my wife's car from Zurich to Aviva who had the best combination of price vs features. Glad to see others came to the same conclusion.

Never understood no claims bonus' either. Despite being protected you policy still increases dramatically if you have a claim. Bunch of crooks.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: What discs to write to for...
« on: 14 November 2008, 11:17:54 »
Dave DND wrote 'The older CD players were never designed to focus on something this small, and basically they are straining so hard to do so that they wear out prematurely.'

Why is this, given CD's are non-contact? Does it introduce more repositioning, rereading or error correction?

I find the burner can be important, some of the CDRs are burn on my work laptop cause issues in the car (either periods of silence or disk error messages) where as the same media burned in a home PC is OK..... mind you, different software too, so there are a few variables...

VX garage reckons £170 new, but seem quite rare, so might need to watch e-bay for a while, I think....

Omega General Help / Elite 17" Alloy Type?
« on: 27 August 2010, 18:32:21 »
Hi All,

Got a bit of damage on one of my alloys, considering reconditioning or replacement - does anyone know the type or part number of the 17" 6 spoke alloys fitted to the 2002 Elite so I can find out how much one might cost from the stealers or find one on e-bay?

Mine are the same as this cars, I think: http://users.autoexposure.co.uk/vehicle.cfm?Account=AETA40921&Style=2&Id=AETV24159300&Image=http://images.autoexposure.co.uk/AETA40921/AETV24159300_1a.jpg

Cheers,

Mack.

Omega General Help / Brakes Question....
« on: 18 March 2010, 07:34:25 »
Hi All,

I seem to have a vibration under light braking, nothing dramatic, just a slight shudder through the car. Seems to disappear when braking hard and brakes work fine as ever. All the wheels are balanced, alignment OK etc, only happens under braking. Pads and disks are OK (in terms of wear, anyway). Any ideas?

Omega General Help / Re: screen display in German
« on: 16 December 2009, 11:53:18 »
When I first got my car the screen display was all in German and the dealer couldn't reset it. I got tired of waiting and managed to reset it in the first motorway services. You are correct it is not the sat nav voice setting but it is there somewhere...... the useless bit is I can't remember where as I did it by trial and error and it was a long time ago  :-[

Keep going through the menu to the 'settings' tabs, or whatever that is in German.

No idea why it changed - or why the one in my car did between test driving it and picking it up......

Omega General Help / Re: car shaking at higher speed?
« on: 01 June 2009, 11:25:46 »
Sounds like a balancing issue. I was also under the impression that some wheel balancing devices have a wider tolerance and effectively only balance the wheels up to a certain speed - or commit to balancing wheels to a certain speed. Might want to check this (or anyone else know more about this....?).

Omega General Help / Re: car has shakes
« on: 06 May 2009, 13:19:41 »
Strangely, after the last time the local VX dealer did the alignment on my car they also left a 'free gift' of some mole grips clamped on the wishbone. Gave me a bit of a fright at first, when I noticed it a couple of days later, wondered what was falling off......

Perhaps it is standard practice.... :-?

Omega General Help / Re: Exterior temp readout
« on: 02 April 2009, 13:06:04 »
Yep, did mine a month or so ago with help from people here locating it. Worth doing as very cheap and easy and can affect the climate control if the weather is cold..... I had a couple of very chilly mornings.....
