Thanks for the replies,

It's just i'de prefer to have 2 working remote keys so I take
it I would be looking at getting an Auto Electrican to recode
a replacement key if the chip hasn't come loose in the
remote. Also what do I look for in the remote to identify the
chip to see if it's come loose ? is it a push fit or soldered on

Evening All,

I have been looking at buying an omega estate (I nearly
bought one yesterday except for 'issues' with the seller
regarding 'unknown' faults) that he must of known about.

Anyway, I have been to look at a 1998 3.0 Elite today which
i'm interested in but it has a rather odd 'fault' and I was
hoping someone might be able to point me in the right
direction as to the cause / possible fixes / costs.

The car has 3 keys, 2 of which have the buttons for the
Remote C/L, now one does not work via the buttons
(battery ??) but does start the car and the one which does
operate the Remote C/L will not start the car, you simply
get the 'engine' light flashing when you insert the key
which I take means the immobiliser is not recognising the
fob , which is strange as it works the Central Locking.

Any advice greatfully accepted.

Do all the Omega's have the SAI pump ?, it's just as I said
the other engine sizes i've seen don't make this noise ?

Omega General Help / 3.0 Elite Starting Fan Noise ?

Evening All,

Anyway, when you start the car from hot or cold you get a
loudish noise coming from the front N/S wing of the car, the
seller says its a fan coming on and it cuts out after approx
20 seconds but to be honest this is the first 3.0 i've looked
at but all the 2.5 & 2.6 I have looked at didn't make a noise
on startup. Does anyone know if the 3.0 has an 'extra' fan
and if so should it be noisy

Hi,

Thanks for the advice,

Well after all that when the guy brought the car over and I
had a full check through a number of faults showed up which
he was 'unaware' off ??  :-?, including the alarm sounder not
working, driver's door lock intermittantly working with KEY !!
and tracking being off. So I decided not to buy in the end 

Anyway back to the drawing board....

Hi All,

well i've finally taken the plunge and bought a 2001 2.6 CDX Estate which i'm picking up tomorrow
but i'de appreciate any help you can give on the standard alarm/immobiliser that is fitted.

I have been on a couple of websites to get an insurance quote and one seems to say the unit
is THATCHAM cat 1 approved but the other does not ? so as I don't want to invalidate my insurance
does anyone know whether it is approved or not ? especially as it's alot cheaper with the Thatcham
alarm selected.

Hi all,

i've just come across this site via a link from Honest John's
website and I would appreciate any advice you can provide.

I am currently looking for an automatic Omega estate to use
in my business and have come across one as a 'trade' sale
local to me, unfortunately it appears to have no manuals and
only 1 key and I am wondering if someone could kindly tell
me if/how I can do the following things.

1. The radio currently works but if the battery is disconnected
    I wouldn't have the code so is it possible to deactivate
    the code function prior to removing the battery and
    without the code ?
2. Is it possible to recode a new key to the car without
    going through vauxhall if you don't have the keycard. I
    currently drive a Ford Mondeo and in the manual it
    descibes how you can add keys yourself ?
3. Can anyone suggest things I should watch out for when
    looking around the car.
