I fitted one of the "HOT FIX" gadgets to my tractor, and it really helps with starting once warmed up.....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hot-Starting-Fix-BMW-Vauxhall-Opel-Omega-Diesel-M51-/370308699137?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item56381e5401

I would recommend fitting this, once you've solved the cold start problem (ie fuel supply pressure etc.)

Cheers, BP

There are wires, connectors, and a box of electronics (and an antenna ) all attached to the back of that little square switch.
When I bought my 2000 Omega, the Traffic Master kept asking me to input the verifaction code to enable, and it really got on my nerves having to keep cancelling this message.
I was never going to subscribe, so i disconnected everything and took it out of the car.

Cheers, BP

just checked 427 last three dig,on ecu so its simply remove ecu and then follow the posted instructions

It may not be that easy.

You will need to actually check inside the ECU to see if a socket exists or if the eeprom is directly soldered on.

I have chipped mine a few weeks ago and my 427 ECU did not have a socket  :( :(

If your eeprom is directly soldered you will have to find someone to remove (de-solder) the existing eeprom and then solder in a socket.  This is quite a delicate fiddly job so make sure to give it to someone with experience.

I am an engineer so decided to de-solder and solder in the new eeprom directly onto the ECU board..
Worked a treat ;)

Well chuffed with the extra power and torque.  The best bit is the throttle responce in the higher gears (it was flat as a nun's chest before :-[)

Good luck.

Omega General Help / Paper Clip Test
« on: 19 September 2010, 12:21:26 »
Hi,
Just done clip test on my 2000 2.5TD and got following error

49 Glow Device General Error

The car starts ok etc, so does this error mean that just one of the glow plugs is not working?
Is it better to change all the glow plugs as a set?

Cheers, Brian

Has anyone tried, or is it possible, to take off the cat section of exhaust and try knocking out the inside of the CAT material (ie flexi ram rod, and bashing the outer case) until as much comes out as possible and then re-fitting ??
I believe the CAT inner material is quite fragile, so this might bepossible.

Omega General Help / Removing CAT on 2.5TD
« on: 11 September 2010, 11:38:14 »
Few questions for the knowing members with experience on a 2.5TD ......

1. Is it possible to de-cat a 2000 facelist 2.5TD GLS
2. If yes, how is it easiest to do.
3. What are the advantages or disadvantages to running without the cat
4. Are there any issues on the engine management with sensors etc
5. Does removing the cat affect the running of the Turbo
6. Will it still pass the MOT

Any thoughts appreciated...Cheers, BP

Omega General Help / Swapping 427 ECU
« on: 13 September 2010, 14:23:15 »
Quick question......

Can a 427 ECU module for a facelift 2.5TD be swapped from another vehicle and run ok, or does it need to be connected to diagnostic computer after fitting to re-program?

Cheers, BP

Omega General Help / Re: MPG for old tired 2.5TD
« on: 18 July 2010, 20:14:31 »
Thanks for the replies.  Good to know there's some life left in the old girl  :)

I have a GLS model so do not have an instant reading of mpg on the display, so I always reset the trip, and read full tank.

I have been thinking of adding the cruise control stalk as an upgrade.  Would adding cruise control change my average mpg for the better or worse??

Is the chip upgrade really worth the money??

The 35 mpg average is full tank - full tank, and includes all types of journey (short town, and long runs etc) generally >450 miles between fill-up.

I have a 2000, 2.5td estate, manual box, with 143,000 mls on the clock, and am getting 35 mpg from a full tank.

I was wondering if this is good, bad or normal for this model, age, etc.

Cheers,
BP.

Are there any simple mods that get better mpg (I am not a rocket racer)??
