Omega General Help / Re: Omega B '96 - Transmission Transplant Help
« on: 13 December 2011, 12:21:38 »
The problem is a bit more complicated than a simple hang -- the error still comes up intermittently regardless of the hang between gear transitions and the hang very rarely occurs in overdrive (Sports Mode). It also has abnormally high fuel consumption, in the order of 20L/100KM or above. Fuel line and filter are fine, as is the exhaust.
An auto-box specialist suggested replacing it (this was a couple of years back and I forget the specificity of their reasoning, but it was sound at the time). They also sent it to someone who had the software necessary to communicate with the car which didn't turn up anything out of the ordinary.

I purchased the replacement box a while ago and just received it recently, so I already have it available for replacing.

Auto for Auto, and swapping due to a transmission issue (often hangs in the transmission between the first and second gear, throwing up the diagnostic fault 'Automatic Gearbox')

Omega General Help / Omega B '96 - Transmission Transplant Help
« on: 13 December 2011, 01:48:05 »
Hi forum,

Sorry if there's a how-to guide for uninstalling/reinstalling a transmission for an Omega B somewhere (I searched in vain) but that's precisely what I require help with...
More specifically, if someone could point me in the direction of a guide (or perhaps give me a write-up of their own) I would be very grateful.

The vehicle is a 1996 Omega B, 2.5L (X25XE). The donor transmission comes from a '94 Omega B (X30XE).

I would like to know;
-What tools are required (incl. axle stands, oil trays etc)
-What oils/lubes are required
-Pre-process preparation
-Post-process engine burn-in or restrictions
--Perhaps a step-by-step guide of the process

If these cannot be met or I'm not confident I can perform the work myself, I will get it done professionally.
Being a financially-strapped student, I would like to save as much money as possible, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Omega General Help / Re: Transmission Transplant Possible?

Sweet, thanks for the help.
Managed to obtain the 3 components (Gearbox, Torque converter and flexi plate) second-hand for about $430USD (600NZD). Just got to wait for them to arrive now.

Omega General Help / Transmission Transplant Possible?
« on: 07 December 2009, 13:02:32 »
Okay, so I have a '96 Omega B with a faulty transmission, and the donor car is a '94 Omega B.
Just wondering whether there are any incompatibilities between the two cars' engines (X25XE and X30XE respectively)?

What I want to do is take the trans out of the 3.0 Opel and replace the dying one on my 2.5 . Is it as simple as just dropping it in, or do I have to transplant, say, the entire engine?

They're both autos, and look more-or-less identical internally.

Sorry, I'm not really familiar with cars, so if you need anything more specific to be able to help, you may need to ask me.
Thanks!
