Omega General Help / Re: 2.2 dti fuel pump
« on: 29 October 2013, 10:21:40 »
had that done by ecutesting -came back perfect. Diags suggested critical pump failure. Have changed crank sensor but still same. Ex Vauxhall man insists its the pump. Ther's nothing else to try - unless someone knows better.
Car sometimes starts but shuts off when above about 85 degrees. Suspects fuel solenoid shuts down as engine just stops.
Have been told that a disc inside the pump gets grooves worn in it which upsets the ecu and it shuts down.
Cars only done 120k. my landrover (120k) worksevery time.

Omega General Help / 2.2 dti fuel pump
« on: 29 October 2013, 09:57:52 »
Is it possible to obtain a good replacement fuel pump (0470504016) without robbing the bank for £1k or more.
Car cant be worth more than £1800 (2002 elite ). Seems a crying shame to scrap it it's too good. I have even replaced the Bose with a modern 7" screen all singing hifi and sat nav. A worth while job despite the no-no's on this forum and the work involved- but hey I'm an enthusiast with time to do it- just not as young as I used to be!!!
But help need a pump at not too much cost -anyone help?

Easiest way is to run two supply wires staright off the battery fused very near to battery and at the boot end.
These will supply a 7way bypass relay and a split charge relay. I undid the harness and shifted the vx socket to above the o/s light cluster and took all the trigger wires from there -take reverse light off the light cluster -saves a lot of hassle. Solder all loints and insulate propeerly.
I have done this on 6 vehicles now for myself or friends and not one has had a single failure over 7 years.
As the fridge can pull 20 Amps I cool it on gas or mains before leaving home and charge the leisure battery.
In fact i haven't connected the batt charge lead to the socket. The buzzer in the 7 way is audible with the radio on so no problems with added relays under the dash.
happy& safe towing.
Jeff

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: elite road horn

I see what you mean - had a pair of Maserati type air horns  just after twotones where collared by the boys in blue. That used a relay off the horn switch and fed battery volts direct to the compressor. It was loud. Best of luck.

if you have only 1 horn fitted (as on my 2.2 elite) you could replace it with twin fanfare types. There are two connectors on the harness (one if notused will be taped back on to the loom.
Makes an amazing difference.

I did this mod on my 2002 2.2 dti and the relay was in the position of the grey one in Jimbob's photo. The main thing is the relay to replace is the tall yellow one, wherever it may be on your model. Good Luck

Just to add to the interesting talk on the powersounder, mine just went off last sunday afternoon. No apparent reason but stopped after a few minutes and went off again in no time flat. It continued to cycle and was not stopped by unlocking the car with the remote or even turning on the ignition or starting the engine. I removed it and lasted 3 minutes continuing to cycle before it died. I have since opened it up and it has Varta 3.6V 140mA batteries. One battery measured 0.40V and the other 1.90V. The car is a 2002 2.2 dti elite and has done 108K. Could the imbalance of the battery voltage have anything to do with it? Following Dave DND's exhaustine research details I offer this as additional info for his archives. If onebattery is not holding its charge compered to the other could it cause random triggering of the alarm?
Am going to replace both batteries and see what happens.
Thanks to all who post on this issue -its interesting.

That's where the little blighter is!!
Job done. Many thanks to everyone. I just found the bulb on the cable floating in the breeze and I couldn't find where it should go. Now I know!
Thanks again

yes that's right but I can't figure out where it pushes in to.

Seems I've got it wrong!!!!!
Sincere apologies for time wasting but yes please another pic will be excellent.
Many thanks Brikhead fot your indulgence.
Kindest regards

Bulb exists in a not quite square holder which just plugs into a hole. A small groove on the plastic holder makes it only fit one way.
Thanks
