Omega General Help / Ignition key remote repair
« on: 01 January 2015, 17:51:18 »
My 1999 MV6 has two key remotes, now both knackered. In one, the battery holder has let go completely, and the buttons and case are pretty rubbish. The other is much better, and has just stopped working due to one leg of the battery holder letting go. I'd like to get the better one repaired.
I've found this advertiser on Ebay.

I'm a bit twitchy about sending a key to someone who has my address (the car's not worth much, but I keep power tools in it). Has anyone used these guys? Opinions welcome.
p.s. Many thanks for your answers on my recent post about intermittent tickover. I've been cleaning the idle control valve, and nearly cured it.

Omega General Help / Re: Tickover intermittent

Hey, thanks guys! I 'll start with the Crab Cleaner (still have some from when I was single), and if that fails, I'll check out the crank sensor. The way it comes and goes, I suspect it'll be that.  :y Cheers.

Omega General Help / Tickover intermittent
« on: 06 December 2014, 14:44:01 »
My 1999 MV6 manual has recently taken to losing its tickover intermittently. It's usually ok  from cold and will drive happily for a while (length of time/distance varies), but then will not tickover, and loses some power and drives lumpy (but still on 6 cylinders). Sometimes it recovers and drives fine again. If I park it till cold, its ok again. Any ideas?   :'(

I disconnected the battery of my '99 pre face-lift manual MV6, planning to jump my old '98 MV6 ( I know, I know ). The alarm went off, so I abandoned the idea, and re-connected it.
Now, the electric roof won't work, the windows work, but not the one-touch facility, or the automatic-closing with the central-locking.
Is there something I can reset, or have I blown something? HELP!

Omega General Help / Vague steering
« on: 11 June 2011, 08:41:32 »
My first MV6 gradually developed vague steering, with a strong tendency to tramline. It all got gradually worse. Several local garages tried to find the cause without success.
Now my newer one is starting to do the same. Any ideas??

Omega General Help / MV6 Exhaust manifold gasket

My second MV6 has now developed a leaking exhaust manifold gasket, just like my previous one (which I never fixed!). Is there a way to replace it without removing the engine? >:(

Ah thanks, that makes sense. :y I still have my '98 MV6 (needs a little work, but could be for sale cheap). Would it be wise to swop in the powersounder from that to get it all working again, or just remove the powersounder from my current MV6 (currently just disconnected) in case of fire?

By the way, mounted to the same bracket as the power sounder was what looked like a horn. Is that what it is?

Thanks guys. Have disconnected it, and all is peace again! Hadn't thought of the insurance angle though. Might have to replace the batteries and reconnect it....... ;D :D

It's not the horn. It's the siren, and it's going off every 2 or 3 miles. Could it be caused by my lazy driver's door solenoid?

It's just the horn, I think. Thanks for mentioning fire - very encouraging!! :D

Omega General Help / Alarm and central locking
« on: 22 May 2011, 18:36:07 »
My alarm has started to go off as I drive along. Mostly, I can turn it off by switching off and back on again, although this can get a bit exciting!
I wondered if it might be caused by dirty battery connections creating enough resistance to trigger it, so I cleaned both terminals and all extra connections thoroughly this morning. I drove approx 30 miles with no problem, but on the way home, it went off twice ( still an improvement on before).
The solenoid in the driver's door central locking has got tired, so I often lock remotely, then lock that door with the key. Could this have something to do with it? Help!!
