When the error codes come up, there is no throttle control at all. The engine just and I mean only just ticks over and  sounds like a wet fart on loudspeaker. You can press the throttle all you like and get absolutely no response... When you clear the error codes, the engine runs sweetly and the throttle is absolutely fine. The only obersvation I've notices is that once the car starts hunting for gears, within the next few times I start the car I can almost always guarantee the same error codes will come up and the symptoms described will reappear.

Thanks for that. I've had a look at both of them. Well I say look... it appears to me that whilst it's possible to look at the TPS connector on the throttle body itself, the actual sensor is inside the throttle body. Am I right in thinking this? If not I cant see a way to take the front cover off the throttle body to have look at the actual sensor... if this is the case, does it mean that if the TPS on the throttle body has become knackered, it's a new TB rather than just being able to buy the TPS? The engine, is the Z22XE

I also had a look at the connector on the cylindrical [sensor?] item at the top of the throttle pedal and whilst the connector position can be moved quiet easily fore and aft along with side to side, the connection itself appears tight and the wires all look spot on - i.e. no frays etc...

Over to you!
Thanks again

Hi all

thanks for your replies.... I'm using Gendan's VauxCheck and Engine Check software that came up with all the codes listed. The VauxCheck didn't come up with the C0300 code but the Engine Check did along with all the P codes....

Another thing to mention that I forgot earlier is that when driving I'm now noticing that the car is hunting for gears, particularly between 50-60mph... it doesn't know what gear it wants to be in.

In looking at Vauxhall diagrams, all three codes are pointing to the throttle system and not the cam sensor and I'm thinking that if the throttle sensor isn't sending the right signal, then that'd also explain the reason why the car is now hunting for gears... so another question I have is does anyone know if it's possible to buy a throttle position sensor on its own or would i have to buy a the whole throttle system?

Given someone mentioned the cam sensor... could you please explain further how that could throw up the symptoms explained here? I'm really interested in learning more about this so any additional light you could shed would be great.

Thanks

Morning All!

My Peevee is a little bugger... he keeps conkin' out! I've put a diagnosis kit on it and reset it a few times to see if the error codes are consistent and they are.... So the error codes are:

C0300 - Right Front TCS Solenoid / Meter #1 Circuit Malfunction

P1525 - Engine Throttle System [ETS] - limp home position malfunction

P1526 - Electronic Throttle System [ETS] - Adaptation - Malfunction

P1550 - Electronic Throttle System [ETS] - in emergency mode

What i've learned is that C = chassis and P = powertrain and i'm guessing that TCS stands for traction control system. So I'm also guessing that perhaps the C0300 could be an earthing error on the chassis relating to the traction control system? Has anyone had this code before? Am I wrong / right etc? On HonestJohn's website they've listed "sounds a bit late now but the O/S/R sensor runs the ABS/TCS, speedo & crusie & 2 stage PAS. Looms used to fail under the back seat. I have replaced modules due to heat damage / and or corrosion but a live data test is best first." does anyone know if this sounds likely??

As for the 'P' codes... again I'm guessing here... could it be either an accellerator sensor, the actual throttle body itself or the cars ecu?

Are there actual sensors on the throttle body that can be replaced?

Is there actually a seperate sensor on the accelerator?

I had my mechanic check the throttle body to ensure it was clean and all mechanical parts moved as they should and he said when he inspected it the throttle body was spotless and all moved as it should... hence why i'm wondering if there's a sensor for it?

Any and all help would be appreciated folks... like any 'new' car that's 2nd hand you never know it till you own it and this dam thing is breaking down every 30-50 miles on some occassions [three times in the last 2 days] and then on other occassions it'll run for 600 miles before its next breakdown.

Thanks all

Omega General Help / Re: EML on after empty fuel tank

just doine a quick search would appear to lead me to believe that P0300 is random missfires detected and P0301,2,3 & 4 is indicating a misfire on cylinder 1,2,3 & 4...  have a look at this post and see if it helps you... it suggests looking at the HT leads / coil pack in the dark to see if you can find any sparks showing if/where a short might be occuring that is leading to the error codes.

Omega General Help / Re: Bilstein b4 shocks (and irmscher springs)
« on: 03 January 2011, 05:07:46 »
The one thing I've learned over the years is to buy a matched set of shocks and springs... don't buy shock A and spring C if shock A has been matched with spring B. If you know a friend who has had a good experience with Irmscher's springs and shocks I'd say stick with that. I wouldn't go matching Billy shocks with Irmscher's springs. But, I would use Billy's matched or recommended spring with their shock. I hope this makes sense. The only time I'd start mixing and matching would be if I knew the poundage per inch of the spring and how a shock is valved. Otherwise you could end up either with not the result you wanted or end up shortening the life of your shock... not something I'd want if I was spending £££'s on new suspension.

I hope this helps.

Omega General Help / Odd suspension clunk only when cold...
« on: 31 December 2010, 13:07:44 »
Hi all,

I've noticed over the last 3 weeks that my Omega, when cold and when going over a speed hump, pothole etc that I get a crashing/clunking sound from the near side front [and to a much lesser degree] rear suspension. It only happens when the car is cold! If I drive around the block for 5 minutes I could go over any pothole, speedbumps at normal speed and no noises whatsoever would come from the suspension. Whenever I've had similar issues in the past in other vehicles its been the bushes but then when it was the bushes or drop links the noises came regardless, not just when cold. There doesn't appear to be any leaks with the shocks... but I wonder if it's possible the valving has completely gone inside the shock and then when the shock foams up inside, the pressure is such it stops the noise?

Aside from the noise, the car's handling is behaving as per normal... i.e. it's tramlining [has done ever since I bought it 4 months ago]. And I have had the tracking done for camber/castor/tow-in/out etc. which massively reduced the tramlining so I just think tramlining must be an omega thing... and my tyre pressures are checked. All are at normal pressures and no unusual or uneven wear on the tyres.

Any and all guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks all!

Omega General Help / Re: New Car - Elec Problems Continued...

The fault codes relate to the electronic throttle control, so the problem is either in the throttle pedal position sensor or the throttle body itself.

In the first instance, check that the connectors to the above are secure and perhaps clean the contacts.

Can't help to clean out the throttle body in case it is sticking.

Getting it to a tech 2 for a look at the live data might reveal more detail.

Kevin

Thanks for this Kevin, what about the Cam sensor... originally I thought it might be this and others seem to suspect this as well.... what are your thoughts as to why it might be the TPS rather than the Cam sensor?

Thanks for your help Pvee.

Sounds like a cam sensor failure to me.

If it is, only fit a genuine one from a Vx dealer, or else to problem will continue.

So... Vauxhall Car Parts sell 'genuine' vauxhall cam sensors... does anyone know if this is a genuine replacement part [i.e. it'll fit where the original vauxhall one used to fit] of if it is actually a vuaxhall part these guys sell? Any experience of these people??

I wondered if it was the Cam sensor as doing a search before positing... this seems to be a gremlin for many potential electronic error codes but what about your thoughts on a prior post that suggest the throttle body or throttle position sensor?

How was the 70-mile-ago problem solved?

The problem was erased by clearing the problem codes and restarting the engine... simple fix! It was suspected that because the engine's battery died it might have been related to that. Evedently not!

Omega General Help / New Car - Elec Problems Continued...
« on: 31 August 2010, 11:10:28 »
Hi All,

this morning my elec problems continued with the new [for us] omega. It's done 70 miles since the last problem. A friend at a garage put the diagnostic machine on and it's come up with the following errors

1525 Limp Home Problem Error
1526 Limp Home Adaption Error
1550 Electrical. Electr thr control power management

Any ideas of the above. My mechanic isn't sure how to resolve the above issues. Basically when the errors aren't there the car runs fine and then...

... it won't go anywhere. You can start it up but, it automatically goes into limp home mode and it won't rev above idle. If you put the car into drive, it'll jerk along at 5mph because that appears to be the speed when it's idling.

My car is a 2.2 Petrol Auto if it helps you to help me.

Thanks for your help and thoughts in advance.

Also just thought i'd mention that the fuel smell problem earlier appears to be three things...

1 - manifold bolts loose! But on tightning these, 3 of them snapped! So 4 hours of labour to drill them out of the head... bummer
2 - rear exhaust is corroded through, so need new exhaust from cat back
3 - fuel cap... it doesn't fit [as the car came with a full tank of fuel I hadn't needed to check for this!] but didn't realise this.

Thanks for all the help... it is appreciated! So here's the latest...
1 - it would appear that all the original electrical issues were caused by a dead battery! Hah! How beautifully simple!
2 - it promptly died again after 30 odd miles - i.e. turns over but goes into limp home mode! [As a side issue... i originally nic-named the car Peevee but my wife has now renamed it Lemon!] Put the diagnostic machine on that my friends have [not a vauxhall specific one but a different one] and it came up with 'immobiliser'. One friend said they reckon it's the key that's at fault as no code came up with the 'imobiliser' fault. The other one said it might be the maf sensor? They both disagreed with each other [but both potential causes seem plausible] because the first friend said if it was the maf sensor surely a problem code would show up whereas in this instance it didn't?

So the symptoms are: might start 3/4 times and run terrifically. Then next time you turn it on, it automatically goes into limp home mode. Diagnostic machine says' immobiliser fault' without giving any specific code.

Over to you folks, 'cause this ones got me beat! Should I change the maf sensor, could it be the key itself... does it need reprogramming?

Thanks all!

Excellent. Thanks for the guidance. I'm based in Ely, just north of Cambridge.

Regarding the Vauxhall the 'tech 2' code reader item... what is that exactly and where would I purchase one?

Thanks
