Omega General Help / Re: 2.2 16v petrol non starter ?
« on: 02 April 2014, 08:05:15 »
Thanks guys,  :y have also had the gearbox fault message come up a few times recently but not linked the two ... had a huge problem with that gearbox message a few years ago, took months to resolve, during that process the cambelt sensor was changed but was purchased from an Ebay Vauxhall specialist dealer as a genuine VX part ? perhaps it wasn't ?  :'((packaging looked genuine!  :-\)

PS ; just for info the gearbox fault message turned out to be nothing to do with gearbox ..... the problem was solved by changing the throttle body ? Apparently the speed sensor didn't match the throttle position sensor so the onboard displayed there was a problem with gearbox.

will go to local VX dealer and get myself a new sensor.

Omega General Help / 2.2 16v petrol non starter ?
« on: 02 April 2014, 00:56:03 »
Help and suggestions of likely cause please .............. car was running perfectly yesterday, this morning turned ignition key and as always it fired up immediately but it only ran for about 2 seconds then cut out. It has done this 2 or 3 times before and just by chance I discovered that by just turning key again it wouldn't start, but turning off completely, removing key from ignition switch, then re-inserting key and turning again it would start ??? No idea why ??? However, this morning even that trick is not working ........... engine is turning over, petrol supply is there, but not a flicker of any attempt to fire up  :-[??? looks like whatever was playing up before has finally died !
Any suggestions of where to start looking ?

That would be me then!

Although I can't do anything for a couple of weeks as I'm away next weekend.

Scrapping it for two £30 parts and an afternoon's work seems a bit much. It's not that bad a job, once you've acquired some appropriate tools. Facilities aren't that important; I did mine in the street.
Thanks for offer, will talk logistics etc, when you return, I have a few tools for general car repairs, have replaced front pads, rear discs, pads & h/b shoes in last 6months but dont have any "heavy duty" garage gear which I suspect this job needs. happy to help and be "the other pair of hands" but really would be working in the dark if doing myself.

APOLOGIES FOR HIJACKING THIS POST !!!

I have a 1999 2.2 cdxi estate (150,000mls) with a knackered offside rear wheel bearing (not sure about nearside as rumble from offside is drowning out all other noises ! ) ........ Looking at this and previous posts I had concluded this job is at the extremities of my abilities and sadly but probably more importantly my facilities !!! I live in Maidstone, Kent and need some advice please.. does anyone know if there is someone locally (or within driving distance!) that would be able to replace the bearings for me at a viable cost .............. my local garages seem to be more than happy to tell me "scrap it mate, it would cost more than the car's worth!" .............. Love my omega and really dont want to scrap it if I can avoid it !

Omega General Help / Re: Exhaust Drone, the answer
« on: 29 March 2013, 21:06:11 »
I also got one from poland on ebay for my 2000 2.2 auto estate .......... agree that build quality and material quality looks good,  the tail pipe on mine was also was a little short (also the facelift model), also sounds a bit louder than the original GM exhaust but I'm putting that down to the short tail pipe creating a little bit of echo under the car .... I have not yet fitted a tail pipe trim ..
As it happens I also have an "under the car drone" from the rear at certain speeds and was also putting that down to air resonance caused by the short exhaust ................ maybe I need to check the rear wheel bearings ???
Anyone got a how to replace the rear wheel bearings on a 2000 estate guide with pictures ????

Thanks

The door switches have two independent contacts. It is possible that one contact is still functioning correctly while the other has become intermittent.

Now feel slightly embarrassed and a bit of a numpty !!! Turns out to be the door switch after all .... didn't even give that a thought based on the fact the overhead interior courtesy light was coming on when the door was opened.

Thanks for the pointer Andy

Now Confused ........
Just gone out to car and buzzer not working again, checked all fuses again, still not working,,,,, however it now looks like it's something else ! ? ..... passenger door puddle light is working, headlight switch backlight is working, drivers door window switch console backlight is working, interior courtesy light working when driver door open,,,,,, the only thing that is not working is the driver door puddle light and buzzer for both lights and ignition key, then whilst I was standing puzzling over the problem the drivers door puddle light came on on its own ( I touched nothing !) ,,,, with the door puddle light on the lights and ignition key buzzer both worked, shut the door, opened it again, and no light again and no buzzers again.

So by a process of elimination the problem must be linked to the light in the drivers door :
option 1 : broken filament in bulb making intermittent connection (surely its not wired in such a way that a blown bulb would create an open circuit and stop the buzzer working?) replacing bulb tomorrow to check.
option 2 : system not recognising the door is open so no light and obviously no buzzer because its designed to warn you when the door is open ...... this is my favourite at the moment but am being thrown a curved ball by the interior overhead courtesy light coming on with the door open, so that is recognising the open door ..... so now thinking is the puddle light and buzzer on a different circuit to the interior courtesy light and is there a possible broken wire in the door loom ??

anyone got a circuit diagram ????

I agree, I found a fusebox layout on-line which also suggested F20 but the other things supposedly running from that fuse where all working ............. thats the funny thing everything appeared to be working other than the buzzers, the light switch backlight and the door puddle lights ??? Will update when I find out which one

Update :
:y thanks to everyone who responded..... checked all the fuses this morning when it stopped raining taking each one out one by one ........... none blown

switched on the lights and bingo "lights on" warning buzzer working again ..... so is the "key in ignition" buzzer as is the door puddle lights ............. so must have been a loose fuse ..... now just need to isolate which one so if it happens again i know exactly where to look. that job can wait for another day as it is starting to rain again.

PS For Rob/Andy - just for info, now I can hear it the buzzer on mine is definately located behind the glovebox !

Thanks again to everyone.

If the backlight on the switch failed at the same time as the buzzer stopped I would expect that either the switch is faulty or a fuse has blown.

Fuses are easiest to check so I would start by trying to find a faulty fuse.

The switch is more trouble to fault find & it could be either the light switch or the ignition switch.

Hopefully someone will post an answer who has actually had this problem.

Do your puddle lights in the doors com on when the door is opened?

Puddle lights not working either ................. now thinking fuse .... but which one ???

so suggesting an internal fault in the light switch if not illuminating either ???.... obviously has power going to it because all lights including fogs work.

Hi again, I know my question probably sounds a petty issue in comparison to the other more obviously serious problems on this forum but I have just done what I feared i would  :-[,
I have got so used to the warning buzzer telling me in daylight that I have left my lights on, that when I went to the supermarket this morning to do the weekly shop (in heavy rain hence the headlights) I parked up, locked the doors, did the shopping and returned nearly an hour later to a very flat battery !! :'(  with just enough power to operate the central locking  :y ................ I now know from personal experience HID headlights can kill a battery in a very short time!!!  now apart from feeling very stupid, and at the same time very lucky that the central locking worked,  I then had to rely on the good nature of my fellow shoppers to jump the car.

So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ........ does anyone know where the buzzer is located ...... probably somewhere completely inaccessible ????
thanks

Omega General Help / Audible Warning stopped working

Hi guys,
I have a 2000 Omega 2.2cdxi estate.... today the audible warning for "key left in ignition" and "lights left on" seems to have stopped working. Everything else seems to be ok other than no backlight in the headlight, front and rear foglight switch cluster.
Can anybody enlighten me as to the possible reason, location of the likely culprit and solution.
thanks
