Omega General Help / Re: 2003 2.6 Cambelt

Hi,

My first post.

I've been quoted huge prices £500 plus to replace the cambelt on my 2003 2.6 V6 CD.

Anybody in the Hertfordshire , Home Counties area know whether this is the going rate at a local garage or is there a cheaper, reliable place. Willing to travel and stay the night !! if it saves a few precious pounds. Also, had air con regassed in August as it had slowly lost it's cool and within a month it had lost it again. Garage assured me that there no leaks when they gassed it as they had found a minor one and repaired it with a £3.00 valve. Many thanks for reading.

Hi Paddy since using the forum i,ve used Darth Loo Knee for work on my Omega,if you pm him i,m sure he.ll sort something out for you,he knows Omegas inside out and i,ve found him to be very reasonable with his rates  [smiley=thumbsup.gif] :y

If you post up your location in your profile, you may find that there is a local mechanic from the forum close to you> if its the camblet or something like that they tend to be a lot more reasonable than a local garage. (If it is a 2.2 then make sure you have the water pump done at the same time) and welcome to the forum :y
Thanx,i live in Stoke on Trent,

If petrol then cambelt... If you don't know the history, change it and the water pump ASAP. Actually, I'd change them anyway for peace of mind!

If a smelly oil burner (diseasel) then IIRCC it's a chain.

Hope that helps

[edit]Oops... Where are my manors?! Welcome to the forum :y :y :y[/edit]
Thanx for that i,ve got it booked in at garage in morn for a service n check over so that,ll be 1st on list

Very nice motor mate [smiley=thumbsup.gif],they can suffer from suspension issues on the front as thats a big heavy lump up there, but when i had my 740 before the Omega, parts from the likes of GSF are quite reasonable, just drive and enjoy i,d have another 7 or 5 series in a flash
